Default Weather stripping adhesive?

I have one still intact and not cracked strand of weather stripping that goes behind the couple top and directly above the back hatch. Whatever adhesive was used prior did not do its job and I need to reattach it. What is the best thing for this? Also anything I can put over other weather stripping to help protect/revitalize it? Thanks

It is an adhesive that works like contact cement does. It is available in Tan or Black and is available at you local auto parts stores. Just tell them it is for re-attaching the weatherstripping. I have seen it in Permatex and 3M brands. Use the Goop Off to remove the old dried up glue if you have to.

A lot of the tire Blackening materials will work to make the weatherstripping last longer. I have an old bottle of Silicone oil that does a magnificent job. There is a new material called "Back to Black" and it works well on the rubber parts.

On my Wife's VW I spray the lower sides as they are made out of a plastic material that started life Black before the sun hits it, sure makes the Car look nice.

The rear hatch weatherstrip is a push on no glue required, the B pillar back roof and down the sides only needs a little adhesive at the back to prevent the side window closed pressure pulling it out. No adhesive required around the top under the targa roof, same with the front A pillar weatherstrips.
Only a little adhesive required if you must on the inside to keep the weatherstrip against the sides.

Out of the 2 or 3 weatherstrip sets over the past 20 years on my 85, i have never used adhesive except my last set.
The side windows would occasionally pull the B pillar weatherstrip out of the retainer, only the bottom 2 to 3 inches.
However that is all to do with the weatherstrip material some are thicker and not as soft, have never had a problem with Wilcox weatherstrips no adhesive required.

The latex weatherstripping looks nice and is very soft, however they crack up like crazy with UV light exposure over 12 months ...........

I will go back to Wilcox after using the latex weatherstripping from corvettecentral, it fits and lasts the best from my experience.
Lets see what others recommend before using adhesive, that will ruin the weatherstripping and make a mess when you need to remove it.

Where can I find the appropriate replacement?
