Default Code 32

Have a 1990 L98, 120k on the odometer. Occasionally the SES light will come on when I'm driving on the highway, 60-70mph. Doesn't come on when I'm on local streets 40-45mph. Pull the codes and it's always only 32, EGR. Car always continues to run fine when light comes on at highway speeds, no idle surge, rough idle or missing, no over temp, no knocking. Even when I come off the highway and drive at a slower speed, still runs fine. Checked all vacuum hoses, they look fine. Could the valve be bad, dirty? Not getting enough vacuum?

Usually its the solenoid/switch.

EGR only activates at certain conditions, so usually only when you are on the highway. It wouldnt operate at idle and should never cause knocking. So this is something that shouldnt cause you worry because it doesn't affect how the engine runs. I ignored my 32 for years until I had the EGR yanked off.

I replaced my EGR and the solenoid switch and still get the SES light and Code 32. Tells me it could be a vacuum leak but all the lines look fine. When you took off the EGR completely, do you still get the code?

I did not, but most people do. You would have to have it turned off in the Chip. That way the ECM will never ground the solenoid and command it on to get the code.

That or the Diode trick that fools the ECM are the only ways to remove it entirely.

The ECM only calls for EGR after you been cruzin at steady speed for a while with coolant temps about ~170 deg. F.
I think exact conditions are stated in your FSM.

I don't think your '90 has the feedback sensor in the RH side exhaust manifold, if so you can't use the diode trick.
I'm not sure how the ECM gets feedback in your case but it's not seeing the EGR valve opening.

Hello. What is the impedance/resistance value of the diode needed for this modification?
