Default LT1-4 vs LS

From personal experience's, why dont we put together a list of the different builds we have done.
It would be nice to include the following
1. Engine
2. Mods done
3. Cost.
4. Dyno results
5. Track results.
6. Other vehicle mods, ie. wheels, tires, transmission, stall, gear ratio, anything that would effect performance.
7.Things that no longer work, ie. cruise control. emissions, etc.

I thought it would be nice to put together an actual list, to give others a realistic view of what to expect, and hopefully not turn it into a "mine is better then yours post"
Also, if we could keep it actual builds that we have done, not someone else's build, or worse, one's we heard about.
FWIW I have built 2 sucessful LT1 cars..... never a LS, but I am intrigued, and would like to learn more

Been trying to dig up info on my first build. It was roughly 15-20 years ago, so pricing is best memory.
It was the following
93 Corvette Vert, automatic 2.59 gear.
Never ran in stock form, so no baseline, but did the following.
3.54 dana 36, (zip products $795.00?) ran 105.xx mph with a 13.17 ET on Mich. Pilot tires.
next year, added a Yank (10in?) 3000 stall converter. cost was I think about $500.00 ran a 12.91 et at 105.xx mph

Swapped out the cam to a hot cam kit, (495.00)
A set of used hand ported heads, $900.00? and then $1250.00 to have new guides, seats, milled, etc. (Lesson learned here)
Exotic muscle headers ($695.00?) tied to stock exhaust
Dana 44 with a 4.10 gear. ($900.00)
Tuned by Alvin at PCMofNC ($250.00?)
And a set of ET Street slicks. ($300.00?)
Ran a best of 11.71et at 117.3 mph

So, even at 15+ year prices, it cost $4,800.00 to get into the 11's at 117.3 mph. and there were other expenses, such as timing chain, gaskets,etc..
The biggest thing I would do different if I was to do it all again, Bite the bullet, and buy new heads.

89 auto 3.07

catback and ported intake were the only things that helped...every single one of the free/cheap/catalogs mods did zip, that includes the frisbee and air cleaner
If you want more power out of a TPI start with the exhaust and dig into the motor
14.3@100ish...all bolt ons were useless save for the catback/porting. Gains were a few tenths, 1.5 mph

90 Z
Stock haibeck chip, 3" catback which was too big
4.10s
Best was a 13.3@110 at Famoso Raceway...LACR (higher elev bad air) would avg 13.4-6@108. No before #s but ran same as most stock ones around.

Current 88 vert
All stock, for now just a better cooling system not sure Im gonna fool with it.

Red 1984

6.0 LQ9 with stock LS3 heads/intake

220/224 .575/.575 112 lsa cam, Airaid C6 LS3 intake, LS3 MAF, 1-7/8" C5 long tube headers, 3" mandrel bent exhaust, x-pipe, 3" FlowFX bullet mufflers dumped at the rear axle, 25% underdrive, no pcv just a catch can, weight reduction.

The car cost $8500 with the swap complete and I have spent another $3000 or so over the years.

Car made 420/410 on a dynojet but likely makes ~430 ish now.

Best 1/4 mile is 11.84 @ 121 w/ 2.0 60ft, fastest trap was 122.64 all at 3250lb race weight.

The car has a TKO 600 5spd manual with faceplated 2-3-4, LS7 clutch with Tilton 6000 throw out bearing, 3.54 D44, 275/40/17 R888R tires on the rear and cheap 245/45/17s on the front, 17" C6 Z06 wheels, C5 brakes on all 4 corners, sheet metal dash insert with Marshall gauges, KYB shocks, 17.5lb YUASA AGM battery relocated behind driver's seat

Car ran 12.80s @ 114 w/ 2.4 60ft when I first got her. Took out some weight, went from 2.5" crush bent exhaust to 3" with mufflers at the back, installed the underdrive and C6 cold air intake and had it dyno tuned and got the R888R tires. Then she ran 12.0s @ 120-121 in 2500+ DA. Then got some -500 DA and went 11.87 @ 122.64. Then I faceplated the trans and went 11.84 @ 121 in 2500 DA. I have since changed the exhaust to the current that is dumped at the axle and removed another 125-150lbs but haven't had a chance to hit the track because it is closed. Hoping for 11.50s at 124+ as she seems to 60ft much better now with the weight out of it.

The car has no ac (but I retained vented heat) and the cruise control does not work. No cats or emission stuff on this car but it is over 25 years old so it doesn't get emmissions tested.

Cost breakdown on added mods are: $1650 for the faceplate on the TKO, $275 on the LS7 clutch, $300 on the Tilton throw out bearing, $300 on the current exhaust, $120 underdrive, $120 Airaid CAI, $50 on the LS3 MAF.

1984 4a - I was posting as xrcrx back then but couldn't get back on here so have a new log in and a 94 6m now

My 84 : all runs at Raceway Park in Houston
15.4@88 dead stock 130k miles
15.3@89 made the underhood ductwork functional - when I taped it back over I lost the same -it was repeatable and it works
14.8@91 1.6-1 CC roller tip rockers
14.4@93 modded CFI intake , ported gasket matched cut runners and EGR delete
after a set of Dart iron heads and a Crane 2040 Powermax she was in the upper 13's at just over 101 ,then I did the 383 build - long story there lol

My 94 6m: again all at raceway park
14.4@101 dead stock 95k miles cutting out horribly around 4800rpm
13.4@105 muffler delete and new opti, plugs, 8mm wires , air filter, etc, a tune up as it were -shifted at appx 57-5800
have now done a gmpp 846 cam and CC spring and 1.6 rockers results next Friday I hope-car pulls like a freight train shifing around 63-6400 I am guessing

Come on.. Lets post up the setups. I think there are lots of gen 1/2 stuff kicking ***. I want to see some more auto builds because I want to get another cheap C4 and hop it up for my wife. Other than C1s, the C4 is my favorite body style and they are in my price range. I don't think many will be as good of roll racers as my LS but they can kill from digs and that is what we will be doing when she gets one.

Powers power when it comes down to it. Just not many people doing CFI. LT is really a great platform. The jump from that to ls wasn't as stark as L98s because the power bands are similar in shape.

1. Engine 96 LT4
2. Mods done Procharger and Corsa Exhaust (for now)
3. Cost. Around $7500 depending on how you get your tuning and install done or do it yourself
4. Dyno results 384whp @ 5800RPMs
5. Track results. Haven't had it on the track, but should be low 12's
6. Other vehicle mods, 3.54 factory gear, B&M shifter, Targa Brace
7.Things that no longer work. Everything works but the HVAC buttons tend to be a bit lazy in the cold.

I may have to return to update this in a year or two as a am compiling parts to head to 500whp in the C4.
