Default Heater Core hose restrictor

I was on one of the Impala SS forums and there was a discussion about a heater hose restictor that is supposed to limit the amout of flow to the heater core. Without this item too much pressure reaches the core and causes it to burst or at least leak. Supposedly the max amount is 5 gallons per minute any more could cause problems.
Has anybody heard of this problem. I would think the set up on LT1 Impalas is very similar to the one on Corvettes with the same engine. The item is described as being part of the heater inlet hose.

Kinda sounds like one of those non-existant problems that someone comes up with a part for to make money.....
5 gallons per minute? Now if they stated a press....but then you'd just get a lower press. rad cap!

This item came from GM with the car. The individual had removed it when it broke and replaced with a Tee of some sort. His heater core went after that. The replies he got implied that that was a restrictor and was needed even had a part number I believe.
I have never heard of that, I just wondered if anyone else had.
Perhaps part of the heater valve in front of the core.On the Impalas it seems to be a separate part. When my heater core went last year it happened just after I nailed it. I just figured it was weak, '86 with 104k.
