..... I recently installed a set of ARH SS Headers and due to a lack of space had to use a VERY short oil filter ... Wix 7099 ... my old Hookers allowed the use of a full sized filter ... Wix 51061 ... I am currently installing a remote set-up and will upload pics as soon as I can ... I was wondering where y'all might have mounted your remote filter and how did you deal with the hoses ... C4 Corvette chassis' are challenging in this regard .....
Different car, same issue. Even the tiniest Wix requires the DS header to be dropped some.
Scattershield, tuned headers , kicked out pan-PITA. Remote is the way to go..adding a cooler also?
Mine is on the adjacent frame rail. Also ARH headers
..... Willie ... That's almost exactly how I did mine ... looped the hoses forward in front of the headers so I wouldn't have to remove the hoses to pull the headers or oil pan off ... the bottom pic looks like the Hookers .....
Parkin, its a matter of fitment...dont let it get dirty enough to worry about needing a larger one.
With the bypass blocked off I figure a shorter body might be a tad stronger wether its true or not
you guys mite flame me for this question, ,useless you drive vet lots of miles or race, why does using a short filter matter
In my case simple fitment...too close to the primarys (heat) and its a pain to get out.
Oil never gets dirty enough to worry about size; perhaps for those that go longer in between changes bigger could be better.
..... I would think that filtration would suffer with a smaller filter ... less filtration element = less flow through it ... at 7500 rpm I'd like to think that all the oil is being filtered ... every oil filter has an internal bypass . Its the spring in the bottom of the can ... oil will continue on its path but may do so without getting filtered .....
..... I went out to the local track last night to check this set-up out ... no leaks ! hooray ! ... I have been data logging oil pressure and this arrangement caused a slight max pressure drop (3-5 psi) but the graph smoothed out a lot ... the line is a lot less jagged and similar to the old full sized filter on the block that l ran with the Hooker headers ... had l known about all the additional expenses to make the ARH headers work , l would have bought new Hookers instead .....
Then put a pressure bypass valve back in line if needed so that the pressurized oil wouldn't be "over pressurized" ?
I am plumbing something kind of similar in my diesel pickup. I already have 1 auxialliary fuel filter in between the lift pump, main filter and fuel tank. I am adding another filter, a flow through lift pump and then a pressure bypass valve to not over pressure the fuel going to the main filter.
... I wasn't expressing any disappointment in the reduction , just stating what the datalog showed ... my pressure dropped from 77psi max to 72psi @ 7500 rpm ... simply from extending the distance that the oil has to travel (roughly 5') , kinda well-known side effect of engine oil coolers , remote filters , etc. ... in fact , the next time the oil pan is off , l intend to put the low pressure relief spring back into the oil pump and get the max down to 65-ish .....
Bypasses are weird fickle creatures... for the most part its a delta P across the element of 15-20 psi for it to blow open... cold start its open. Wide open id imagine its open. You're still filtering but some is bypassing because you'd otherwise starve everything else or blow out the media. On most vehicles a plugged filter would show up as low oil pressure because the sender is after it.
..... Willie ... That's almost exactly how I did mine ... looped the hoses forward in front of the headers so I wouldn't have to remove the hoses to pull the headers or oil pan off ... the bottom pic looks like the Hookers .....
Good eye Robert. They are Hookers. Good thing you are using a racing filter. I've seen the result of a blown filter at the track and it wasn't pretty. Your Wix and my Fram have thick walls so they hopefully won't burst. Looks like we have the same converter.
