Default Headers for L98

Hi,

I would like to open discussion for headers on L98... I read many topics, but they are old. I would like to renew my catastrophically exhaust, which ends on sides next the door. I woud like to buy long tube, but I dont know which will be the best and it will be still available. Many companies discountinued production.

Thank you for your help.

BTW,,, I have my car still on stock, but I would like to tune it UP.

Hooker 2149 if you want emissions kept, 2151 if you don't. 16720 Y-pipe. Should be ceramic coated. Or TPiS. Should still be able to get your hands on those.

Thank you... what do you think about Jegs headers or Hedmans headers?

I looked on Hooker 2151 and Im not sure about my transmission... they write that fits just on floor shifter... Im not sure what they think. What is different between floor and column shifter...

I read details and my year and kind of car isnt in :-/

Thank you

2149 and 2151 and TPiS will fit any L98 engined car. Many here have used them, I use TPiS. Doesnt matter what transmission the car came with.

I'm not thrilled with the fit & finish of Hedman, but a search here will show many use those. I don't know the Jegs.

You have not listed your year but it doesnt matter here.

.
They are hit and miss. I had success with mine. I used the ceramic high temp paint as I have done in the past. I have $240 or so in them including paint. Fine fr a stock engine

If you want the best, go with ARH. If $$$ are a concern, go with others. I have timeslips that show ARH to be .15 seconds quicker than Hookers in the quarter.

How does it fit? It comes as 2 pipes but I have only one pipe going to the cat.

..... Be Aware that ARH headers are slip joint connected to the rest of the system ... slip joints can be problematic to remove/replace the exhaust system and with leakage (O2S are very sensitive to air intrusion) ... l had some thick SS flanges welded to mine at additional expense ... the drivers side header O2S bung location forced some trans bellhousing clearancing to get the sensor installed (test fit everything) ... and you should plan on installing a remote oil filter (additional expense) since there is very little room for an engine mounted oil filter with ARH headers ... my ET's improved slightly also but 383vett and I are drag racing the cars and both of us are over 400 cubic inches ... I have also noticed quite an increase in under hood temps with the Stainless Steel Pipes ... header wrap is an option , yet another additional expense ..... buy the Hookers !

I’ve had the Hookers on my L98 for years and I’m happy with them. However if I were doing it again I would probably go with the TPIS headers. They have bosses for the bolt holes that are similar to the stock manifolds. This allows you to use your factory braces for the alternator and AC. With the Hookers you have to go without braces or fab braces of some sort to fit. I made a brace for my alternator but I went without on my AC. Now I’m reluctant to use my AC I fear of breaking something.
