I talked to SloRvette this afternoon, and he had finished his secondary estimate on the car.
Now, remember, the adjuster only wrote a little over $4.3k on his estimate.
Paul really shocked me when he said that he found ~$11k.
I'm going down tomorrow, so i'll take some new pictures then... :nonod:
Had the same happen with my 97 Tahoe. Hit a coyote doing 80  Damage was cosiderable and the right front fender even caved in a bit. The adjuster initially stated it would take $700.00 to fix give or take. :cuss I took the truck to 2 different shops and their estimates were over $2K. I finally told my agent I would put it in the shop and if they had a problem I'd see them in court :boxing Mervz stick to your guns on this and get legal representation if necessary to get what you truly deserve :yesnod:
I hate to think the insurance guy is that incompetent.
at the very least, lets hope they split the difference.
Have you ever hit a deer?
Your invited to come look at the damage. :)
I fully trust Paul and his judgement.
The adjuster only did a quick look over. The vehicle wasn't even washed and had dirt and snow over it. Its no wonder he missed so much of the paint damage.
Also, there are a few things that needed to be looked at, and he intentionally left off. Like the new top and rear hatch glass. The adjuster was not aware that neither could be refinished. :)
Its a combination of someone only doing a quick one over and not knowing about C4s.
His inital estimate only basicly covered a new hood/tire/ and a few other small pieces. :)
No offense, but unless you have fire damage the inside and engine of a car, you aint getting 11K worth of damage (Unless you count a SHOW QL Paint job for the whole car for 6-7K)..
From that pic itself, I don't see more than 3-4K and that would be with a new hood and painted to match and windshield..
If your insurance claims the car is worth 20K though, break some more parts, like suspension stuff just to get it above the total %, so you get the 16K for it, as you can't sell it for that much as it was outright.. :D

New hood
New Windsheild
labor for windsheild
New hatch glass
New Tire
New Headlight
Total repaint
labor for everything (it takes 10 hours to install the hood and bumper alone)
labor to clean out all the glass in the nooks and crannies
labor to fix drivers seat (sport seat fuctions got messed up somehow)
new alignment
And yes, this is going to be a top quality repaint. My car was in Perfect condition before, and i will not accept anything else. :)
When you throw a $1800 top, $1700 back glass, $500 in moldings and gaskets for the windshield, and paint the back half of the car, the estimate goes up quickly. The scratches that the appraiser missed aren't huge, but they're there.
Hey man.,..let me tell you, ins companies are famous for telling you they have a great shop who will do it for $3K.
You just have to NOT buy into that because it's usually the adjusters bud who needs cash...and you will get a crappy $3K job and a bunch of use used parts that won't line up properly. ( I've unfortunately been there ).
What ever you do...do NOT accept the check from the insurance company...take it to a good shop you know of, and have the insurance company pay them directly when it's done.
And be prepared to be a little beligerant about it as well! ( Having an intimidating stance usually keeps the insurance croo...err...adjuster in line. )
Re: damage estimate update on my car..... (SloRvette)
Mervz,
So they got all that at $11k?!?! Cuz my car as it sits now, will need:
New Windshield ~$500 (Plus R&R)
New Hood ~$1600 (Plus R&R)
New Headlight Assembly ~$400 (Plus R&R)
ENTIRE REPAINT ~$????
BUUUT...the insurance MUST pay for it. (As it was the fault of an incompetent body shop...:D)
Good luck on getting yours fixed man! It's a beautiful car, and I can't wait to see it back to 100%!!
If the insurance co. gives you 11k for that then I say take a vacation to Tahiti. I have an outstanding body shop near me that could all that for about 7k and you would never know it had been hit. 5 out of 6 cars that I see at local car shows, that I go "wow, that is outstanding" have been painted by them.

No way!
This car is at an awesome body shop.
Plus, even if did fix it for less (which i would never do), i would never waste it on a vacation...
