Here is one of the pics to start getting an idea of how to dimension. If I get a commitment to provide the measurements, I will go through all the views to make sure that we have what is needed for someone to fab one up
you can find the centerline of the slots by taking the outside measurement of the slots and subtracting the width of 1 slot. so we would need the width of the slot plus the outside dimension
etc etc
sorry the arrows are not perfectly in line, just was working in paint

I haven't forgotten about this, just been busy as snot lately. I should have time in the next week or so to either take pics with a tape measure or make a drawing with the measurements attached.

I didn't think you had. I have all the pictures downloaded. As I said, I will commit to showing every where and how we need a dimension, as long as you do the measuring.
Due to this thread I have decided to replace my quarter century old spare. I asked the seller how old this Ebay tire was and they said they could not check each tire. The seller said to buy the tire and if it was too old I could return and they pay the return shipping. I thought "OK" I can work with that. I will feel better with a new spare. Thanks to the OP!! Dan
If you do some more research, you will actually find a company on the east coast that has new ones and will tell you the mfg date. I found them last year. I might even have them bookmarked on another computer, but I don't have time to bring it back to life this week.
Spend some quality time with Mr Google before spending your money
Mr. drcook, I spent A LOT of time searching this size spare tire. If your source is better then they need to get better at getting seen online. I hope you can post it to help everyone who might be thinking about replacing. Thanks, Dan

Unfortunately, I have the evaluation of the steering dampers going on and a analog dash to start building and don't have time to mess with an old computer. Post what size you are looking for and I will see if I can find it/them again in between tasks.]

Sir, I understand about the damper evaluation. I am very much wanting your thoughts and looking forward to it. My 96 takes a T155/70-17. I have ordered one. If it is not fresh I will return it for free. Can you give me any secret thoughts on the dampers? I won't tell anyone. Dan
That butt dyno... do you get that calibrated every year? I think your mind is playing tricks on you. This is less wight than comparing your car between a full and 1/4 tanks of gas.
Aside from that, I agree with your notions about a spare. Even a lot of new cars are sold without them because of roadside assistance. For a car that is only used on the street and road tripped frequently, I don't get it. For a track car that you are trying to shed all weight possible, I see the advantage if you are removing other items to drop weight as well.
I personally actively distrust the butt dyno. The mind is excellent at playing tricks on it.
Define "roadside assistance" and what it is that they do. If they will beam you down a wheel with a tire mounted on it and you can be on your way, I'd get behind that. AFAIK, they have a different understanding of time than I do. I have waited for over and hour for a "We'll be there in about a half hour." So they arrive and try to fix it and pump it up. What if it is not possible? Do they tow the vehicle somewhere and hopefully that shop is open, has a tire your size and can install it ASAP?

Just got the installation done, go have a read. I have been working out the best installation procedures for the later LT1 auto cars.
I just did a search, the key is to look for 155/70-17. There are lots of them, the kicker is price. There are Maxxis and Goodyears at tirerack.com, Summit (as well as others) can get Bridgestones.

Thank you. I will report on the tire I get. I saw your damper post. Looks harder than I thought. Dan
Not sure if this has been discussed, but what about thickness of the material used to make this? Does it matter much, or is there an industry standard?
Maybe weigh the box?

I just got my new spare tire. $121.26 with free shipping. Continental brand with a date code 0919. September 2019. That is new enough for me. Dan

You defined it just fine. I am not the person that came up with this idea... it is just what is happening. I have only had 1 flat in 24 years of motoring.

I have had several flats, all of which I fixed myself and was on the road pretty quick. OTOH, I have been involved in several "stuck in snow" issues, breakdowns, etc, etc and have been put at the mercy of the tow truck. Just in the C4 alone, I have had breakdowns in the middle of the highway, broken belt bracket, etc, etc and had to wait for the tow truck to come. As I said, their understanding of time is vastly different from mine.

Any progress on this endeavor? Did you ever aquire all the dimensions/measurements/thickness(gauge) of the pieces!? Haven't forgotten about this thread and have been considering this mod more and more!👍
Nope, had surgery in December and a couple other orthopedic issues since. Ortho issues are my cross to bear, but you don't die from them or sit there drooling and messing yourself.
If I could get a commitment, help from different folks we could make it a group project. The picture above illustrates how we need to get it dimensioned.
FWIW the rear bar is not square to the main body. It is mounted at an angle and has an interesting sleeve thing to make it mate to the square main body. Also, the main body is fully sealed. Someone would have to sacrifice one to find the actual aluminum sheet thickness.
