Looks like I've about talked myself into a set of 1.6 RR's as a Christmas present for the Vette. I've been checking the various parts suppliers and was wondering if anyone has purchased a set of Pro Mag RR's recently and where they found the best price. Looks like Summit has a set for $322 but I would like to see if there is a better price available.
Dunno if there's been a price bump. According to their website the $322 price is for part number 1318-16 (1.6 RR's) - couldn't find this number in their catalog. I did my research on the Comp Cams website and thought I had the right P/N for an LT1 motor.......may be I'm confused??
The less expensive ones (~$265) are non-aligning...i.e you need guide plates and hardened pushrods. The more costly ones are p/n 1318-16. These are self-aligning...i.e. you don't need guideplates or different pushrods.
Once you add in the cost of guideplates and pushrods, the self-aligning version is actually cheaper.
Thanks 96GS#007 - now that I understand the difference the slightly higher price makes a little more sense.....was just looking to find the lowest price out there. Don't want the "beater" getting jealous because I bought such high dollar parts for the Vette.
I bought mine on Ebay, thru Internet Racer's Supply, 1.6 self aligning P/N CCA 1318-16. $265.95 shipped, just checked & they still have them listed at that price. http://www.racenet.net/missing.php?u...e/corvette.php

Re: Com Cam Pro Mag Roller Rockers (89 Paul in Cal)
I got mine from Speed Demon Motorsports when I had the 383 done. I just checked their website and CC-1302-16 or CC-1305-16 are listed at $259.95. If you call Chris he might work you a better deal. I got a package deal on mine so you'll have to talk with Chris for the best price. :yesnod: Link to their site in my sig if you need it.

I'm using the self-aligning ones on my LT4 :)
I dont mean to butt in on this post but I have a question that is related to this. I once read that most chevy V-8 engines after 86 already have hardened pushrods. Is it necessary to replace them with the non-aligning rockers and guide plates?

:iagree: Chris is a good guy, I think he was able to work out Roller Rockers, pushrods, guide plates, and 7/16" studs for a good price
....but I bet they are almost the same +/- 10 grams.
Weight is weight when it comes to the valvetrain.
True, but for a stock engine that will be turning less than 6,200 rpms 99% of the time, the added few grams have no measurable impact. Weight over the valve plays into valve float/bounce at high rpms.
Unless the intent is to beat the engine every weekend at the track and consistently turn >6500rpm, buying 7/16" studs, guideplates, etc is spending money for the sake of spending money.
If someone is really serious about high rpm capability with an LT1, then they should also pull the heads in order to have them machined for better valve springs. I'd also have lighter valves installed.
This and $0.50 will get you a cup of cheap coffee :)
 Whether it's the rocker guides on the valve stem or the pushrod against the guideplate I'd expect parasitic losses to be immeasurable between the two, especially on a street engine.
Thanks for all your replies - once again the Forum doesn't disappoint, what a wealth of information and good pointers on low price sources. I really appreciate all the responses. Now it's off to the phone to place my order(s). I'll let everyone know how the installation proceeds.
