Mine lasted 96000 miles. I had it rebuilt at AAMCO in Providence RI. cost was 1700 for tranny rebuild torque converted a shift kit and some hard parts that needed replacing. They also bled the brakes and fixed a wheel bearing. They had to take thranny out a week later as the low revers wave spring was installed improperly. Both times the turnaround was one day and this time they did it right. The car runs great and the shifts are so much better now. I paid 300 extra for the 50,000 mile warranty. Probably stupid but at least i dint have to worry about it at all now. AAMCO i was told was awful but the place i found did right by me and i was satisfied. They went out of their way to accomodate me. I could have getten it done cheaper but waited longer and had a s hitty warranty. If you are gonna pay to have it taken out anyway just rebuild it.

Mine was rebuilt before I got the car, at about 96,000 miles.. $1300 including converter... I had another friend with an '87 that had his last till a little over 100k... the 700r4 in my old GTA made it to 120k.. and the one in my old IROC made it to about the same.. all were L98 cars

My 87 has orginal 700R4 and has never been out of car. Works fine and pan is clean when fluid and filter is change yearly. It has 206K miles.
I have heard a total flush puts to much addative in circulation from all the new fluid causing seals to change or grow and causing problems.
