Default O2 sensor

I cross threaded my brand new header on one side of the o2 sensor. I'm trying to find my factory size o2 sensor thread. Do any one know so I can buy the right threader? I have a 96 lt1 Camaro 350.

Can you ask the manufacturer if they can help you? They might exchange it for you as a goodwill.

You can also try chase the thread and it might work. I would get a new O2 sensor and find a tap, assuming you can easily get such a thing at an auto parts store. That or take it to a machine shop and they might have the tap and do it for a few bucks. That would save you from having another "one off" tool.

If it isn't coated, have someone take the old bung off and weld one in.

Next time you do this, have the sensor put in by hand and use the right socket for a final twist.

The o2 sensors are 18mm x1.5. Lisle makes a nice little tool that should do the trick. It's like $7 or 8 at a parts store

Sure, $10 and if it works, toss it out.

I suppose that if you have a vise to hold the pipe in place while you are turning it, then you can make it work. I personally don't like the nut head ones since it is harder to do. I much prefer the T handle one instead of holding onto a wrench and turning. A wench, sure. Lol

If all else fails, just get a new O2 sensor bung (I think they are all the same thread, but make sure it's 18mm x1.5) and have it welded into the collector of the header. Then just plug up the cross-threaded one (a plug that's cranked in and then welded should do the trick).

Can you do this if it is ceramic coated? I'm not sure

You cannot; you'd have to grind down to bare metal so you have something to weld to.

Oh, right. It would at least mess up the coating in that area. Somehow I missed where you mentioned doing this before. Sorry.

Didn't look hard enough for the VIN, but I replaced all the original ball joints yesterday. It was a pain to remove the uppers.

Anyway, the car doesn't have an AIR Pump, so maybe they put in an L48?
