Default Repairing Loose Steering Column

My 85 Z51 had a loose column when I purchased it a couple of years ago. Vets 'n Vettes track day caused the signal lever to not engage a right hand turn. Stem just flopped around. So I pulled off the wheel and tightened the lever screw. In the process I broke that plastic retainer that the forum said I would. Really didn't want to delve into tightening those screws deep down and/or possible replacing the pins. But its either I do it or just install the wheel and pay someone a minimum of a couple hundred dollars to do it. I have experience from long ago and have read and watched some good information and videos and have a FSM. I get the idea and understand what tools and such I'll need so I'm going to do it myself. Plastic piece won't be here for a couple of days and the weather is going to be tolerable for the next week or so. I'm under a carport and have a garage I could move it into. I'm concerned about the wiring. Will just disconnecting it give me enough slack to pull out the signal switch? Looks to have been into before as one of the signal switch screws is missing. Any tips or tricks will be appreciated.

TIA,

Joe K

Are you fixing the dreaded tilt knuckle wobble or something else? I did replace the tilt knuckle in my 90 and it will require removing the steering column from the car. Not a bad job, but requires patience.

Not sure. Hope I'm just tightening the 4 bolts and maybe replacing the pins. Anything more and I'm driving it as is or taking it to the shop. Thanks.
