Well, I am finally fed up with not being able to see out of my back window on cold wet nights, and need some help diagnosing my defroster problem. My a/c control unit is new, the light for defroster comes on, but i dont smell the hot "on" smell that it once had when it worked. That and it doesnt defrost. How do I go about finding out where my problem lies and how to fix it?
Thanks
did you look for a bad connection or broken wire where the wire connects to the lift shocks? mine was broken there :yesnod:
:iagree:
Use a voltmeter to check continuity in one strut. Then from the known good strut to the grid. Then from the grid to the other strut, then check the whole circut. Also check the breaker in the fuse box. Mine was broken at the solder connection to the grid on the right side.

By far the most common problem.
On my C4 at least, the rear defroster and heated side mirrors share the same fuse. If the side mirror heaters are working, it's most likely the connections mentioned above. You can use a multimeter to check for broken wires.
BTW I recommend conductive epoxy for the wire-to-hatch-glass connection, not solder :)
