Rear tie rod ends worn...should I replace more stuff?
Car is a '96 CE 6-speed with 81K miles. Rear end had been "waggling" since I bought it last month, took it to the local Chevy Dealer (Mac Haik in Houston) they said a rear tie rod on one side is worn.
I am already planning to do all the rear tie rods, I figure if one is worn the others couldn't be far behind at 81K miles.
Are there other items I should consider replacing while back there? Obviously if I see wear on something I'll get after it, but I was wondering if anyone had a similar experience and had some advice.
FYI, this car is a daily driver but I like to drive it pretty aggressively at times. Also, I completely rebuilt the entire front and rear suspension on my '74 Corvette and did the front on my '76 Suburban so I'm not entirely new to suspension work, just C4 suspension work.
Thanks,
Jeff
Re: Rear tie rod ends worn...should I replace more stuff? (bogus)
I just got off the phone with Vette Brakes, they told me about their Heavy Duty Toe Rods...sounds pretty good to me, anyone have experience with these? They said it's great for street or track.
I Vette Brakes grand touring kit on my '74, I really like that setup.
Thanks,
Jeff

I'm using their 'rear camber strut rods' which are essentially the same as the heayy toe rods except they don't use spherical ends, instead they use poly bushings. They told me for every day use, the sphericals would get gunked up from road dirt and require periodic cleaning. Anyway, the strut rods are outstanding and less than half the price of the heavy duty toe rods.
On the rest of your stuff, when I changed the outer tie rod ends I also changed the inners. To do this you have to buy the rear axle tie rod assembly. There was a saftey recall on these becasue of a fracture potential on the 89 model year so out it went.
