The crank sensor is installed in a boss on the bottom of the crank cover facing the passenger side. It'll be a PITA to get to but I don't see why you couldn't replace it from underneath if you had the right tools. That said, if you've got a bad leak in that area, it sounds like you're in for the full monty. Water pump, opti, water pump drive seal, cam seal, crank seal, hub sleeve...

Best of luck!

A bad crank sensor would only throw a misfire code, the car will still run (and they don’t commonly fail). All it does is check for misfire, you have deeper issues.

Crank position sensor is basically a magnet installed into the timing chain cover. I was getting a code for that on my lt4 but it was P0335 and P0334. I had it plugged in incorrectly so the connection was bad. Before you throw parts at it I would get a test light and an OHM meter and check the ground and the signal at the connector. My car ran totally normal with the crank position sensor plugged in wrong and not working at all.

Yes you change the crank position sensor fairly easily without pulling the front of the motor off.
It can be done from under the car, the higher you have it the easier it will be.

I had mine changed as it is much easier on a lift. It took the mechanic maybe 10 minutes. O-ring went bad and it leaked. Dan

Yeah it's really wet around the CKP sensor.. car sits alot. my bad for not driving her. i appreciate all the input from everyone and i will do more research and testing before tearing into it. gonna check the fuel pump as the car ran like a raped ape before i shut it down for our hot summers. i like driving it in the california winters.

the car runs has a hard time starting however this time around it was sluggish on take thu 3rd gear.never before in 15 years i have owned it has it stumbled. i'm starting with fuel pump as it is know to be at least 15 years old. not sure why it threw a 1361 code.

I agree with the others:
  • The sensor isn't causing your starting issues, but
  • I've pulled mine before and it was tight be feasible.

it appears to be my fuel pump , as for the leak i'm hoping it is the crank sensor as i understand that they leak from that sensor the seal dries up wanted to do the easiest fix first and if leak doesn't stop then the joy of tearing down the front of the motor.car only has 41k only time will tell Matt why did you pull your sensor? was it leaking?

I thought it was. It turned out to literally be my oil pan leaking out of a pinhole leak in a welded corner!
