Default Where to even start??

'sup everyone
Literally just minutes ago I was able to get my 1986 started again (after over 2 weeks!) after working on the distributor for a couple hours. I was excited so I decided to go for a quick drive, as you do.
Imagine my anger and dismay when my Service Engine Soon light pops on and the car suddenly decides she wants to limp her way back home. She surges, then dies, I set on the gas and get maybe 1200 rpm, you get the picture. Not too pleased. I got my handy paper clip and checked the codes and got more than I was expecting:

Code 22: Throttle Position Sensor Low
Code 32: EGR System Failure
Code 33: MAF Sensor High
Code 45: Rich Exhaust Indication

Now I know some basic stuff for maintenance. A lot of what I've been able to do I've gotten from y'all. But I'm at a loss as to where I should even start with this mess! I just want to get her running smooth again, is that too much to ask? Tips are appreciated, whether its on the issues themselves or how to handle the way this car is slowly eroding my sanity

Since you were recently under the hood I would go back in and check EVERY connection.

As far as your sanity goes, YOU BOUGHT A CORVETTE, YOU KNEW THE JOB WAS DANGEROUS WHEN YOU TOOK IT. ok, all kidding aside, my 86 has done the same thing to me on a number of occasions. One case in particular was an instance when I threw many of the same codes as you mentioned, I cleared them all by going back over everything I had done. Got rid of the dame SES light took the car to a car wash and when I came out the other end and tried to start the car, wammo. The SES light was back and I could not get it to start. In that case water had gotten up into the engine bay and shorted some stuff out. So I feel for ya.

Did you mess with the O2 sensor at all? Did you disconnect any of the plugs from the MAF sensor or the TPS. You said that you worked on the distributor. The oil pressure sensor is located in back of the distributor. If the lead came off the cpu would seance a low or no oil pressure and shut you down.
Like the other poster said go back over everything and let us know what you find

Tony

well first of all your code 22 is a pretty easy fix. I replaced the throttle body on my 89 and got the same thing. I just went back and checked the voltage with some alligator clips and made sure it’s the right voltage and adjusted it. I don’t remember the exact procedure but I’m 17 and I was probably 15 when I did it so YouTube should be able to guide you well. As for the code 32 my 88 has been throwing it for a while with no impact on driving. And for the code 33 I’d clean out the MAF with some special MAF cleaner and it might go away. I’m assuming the code 45 is just a result from the MAF and TPS so I’d get those straightened out and try again. Best of luck

I agree with fix the TPS first and reset the codes to see what's still set.

Does it? According to my FSM, it is a backup circuit for the pump in case the main one failed.

Is the timing spot on when you take the electronic advance wire connector apart? Are you sure your harmonic balancer is not "walking" on you? If so, I would use a scanner to set the TPS so we know what the ECM sees the TPS to be. I hate to poke the wires to get a voltage. Much cleaner to use a scanner and you will need one if you plan to keep the car.

What scanner would be the best and least expensive to get for the OBD1 cars? I just bought an 88 and need to activate the ABS. The previous owner and a brake job done and when he got the car back, the ABS light was on.
