Default Post Water Pump Replacement

Before putting on new pump on my '87 C4, is there any benefit/harm to flushing the block separately (garden hose or something else). I will be flushing the system once everything's back on but wondered if there was any reason to do this...or not do it.

If you pop out the thermostat sure. It'll blow out much quicker than having to do a system flush.

You can still find those Prestone Kits that have the "Tee" for inline flushing with garden hose supplying water. They have always helped me get rid of the old crud in the system.

Removing the Knock Sensor is another good way to drain out the junk in the engine. Sometimes you might have to "help" the flow with a small screwdriver clearing out the junk in the hole.

Have you ever tried Red Line's "Water Wetter"? It is a nice additive that helps the heat transfer more efficiently. Replacing the Thermostat and Radiator Cap might help your system act like "new" after your water pump installation. Older Radiator caps loose their ability to pressurize the Cooling system and this reduces the Boil Over Point. In these C4's your cooling system needs to be kept in tip top shape as they get "Warm".

Tried to send thanks previously but kept getting message that submission couldn't be processed because "my token has expired". I don't even know what that means. So I'm trying again. If this goes through...thanks.

that only drains the passenger side. the block has another one on the drivers side. depending on year it could have a plug, or a nipple that feeds the oil cooler. Either way you need to open both sides of the block. the coolant in each bank is not connected within the block. the heads, water pump, and intake tie both banks together.

Just sent the below question before I read your post. But they seem related.

Should have read "the above question". Above, below...I'm beside myself.
