I've been running the Torqhead system for about 2 years. I had a few issues but they have all been worked out. I originally had a "SYS" error for a config issue. The VIN wasn't taking when it was programed and kept showing the original PCM vin. The ccm was looking for my original vin. The car ran fine though. I sent the pcm back to Paul and he corrected it. Now when I scan it my original vin shows, no more lights. Everything works as it should. I also had a crank sensor fail in the beginning, and I broke the cam reluctor wheel the cam sensor reads twice. The set screw backed off once, the key way broke the last time unfortunately at the track in October. Paul has taken care of any issues and has redesigned the way the reluctor is held on to strengthen it. From what he said only 2 other higher hp cars were also breaking it so he upgraded that area.
I have HP tuners for the car, but it was tuned by Doug at East Coast Supercharging and he uses EFI live I believe. The car still uses the regular port to scan. I do use a 1999 Camaro LS1 in my snap-on scanner for the LS1 parameters that still has an accelerator cable, or add the parameters I need with HP. Overall I've been happy with the setup, and Paul stands behind his product 100% and has great customer support, any issues he gets back to you with trouble shooting tips, ect.
I did also cut down the fins on the computer because it was rubbing the underside of the hood.
So it sounds like the reluctor wheel is supposed to line up with a key way on the crank..... does our crank even have a key way on the stock motors?
No, there is no keyway on stock motors. There is a recommended installation mark on the components to make timing and doing the optispark and other jobs 'easier' but no key to require that a hub or whatever is installed only one way.
On the '96 year there is a keyway for the crank sensor reluctor wheel.
My crankshaft did have a groove in it for a second keyway (a groove for the crank reluctor and an unused groove for the damper).
When I did my cam change I added a keyway and machined a groove on my stock damper hub just to make sure it would not move.
The kit comes with a new keyed hub for either the stock balancer or ATI one. One drawback to the better ATI balancer is you can't remove it in the car like the factory one unless you pull the rack out of the way.
