Default Connector?

I'm replacing the thermostat in my '87 C4 and, in an abundance of caution, would like to know what is the squarish, flat rubber 'sleeve' just above the rearmost bolt on the driver's side of the thermostat housing. It has two wires running back from it and appears to me to be an electrical connector. (I'm not talking about the other plastic connector above it) Is it? Does it slip right off? I've tugged it it and pried somewhat with a screwdriver but never like to exert too much without knowing what I might be potentially breaking. I suppose I can get the bolt out with it there but maybe not and it would be far easier if I could just get it out of the way.

Never mind. Just plunged in onto the bolt and quickly realized the piece in question would come up with the bracket under the bolt, so.....Also, further look says it may be a vacuum line?

That would be part of the EGR vacuum.
