Well, I guess bottom line is different people have different cam preferences much like different people have different opinions on vehicle brands or the type of engine oil they use. I do appreciate the feedback from you guys.

@Kingtal0n , I get what you're saying about longevity and rates. Makes sense that if you're prioritizing reliability you'd want to be farther away from the limit of what the components can possibly sustain. I think there's situations where that makes sense (endurance racing, daily driver that's your only car) but maybe not exactly where my needs are. I've got other vehicles to run if this needs to be down for repairs.
I'd also consider a turbo LS if the budget allowed, but not in the cards at the moment. 😁

@MatthewMiller Thanks for pointing me toward the XFI series, I hadn't given them a look before. Looks like they make good power, but I don't love how they sound as much. Probably due to the wider lobe separation, I tend to like the ones that are on a 110-112 separation. Not sure if this might be a case for a custom grind with that profile on a tighter separation. But then, I suspect it would be very close to the XE/XR offerings.

That's what my car had: a custom grind using two XFI profiles on a 110 LSA:

My heads were flowing a lot more and I used 1.6 rockers, but this was also on a 396. This would probably work quite well for your needs. My main focus was on autocross and street use, and the powerband was great for those uses. As you say, with the 110 LSA it sounded fairly nice at idle, too.
