Headliner 1996
I while back I saw a post from Cruisinfanatic headliners he sells.
Headliner (homestead.com)
My car was in need of one as the original was hanging down. I purchased one from him and it sat in the corner for a while. Today I got bored and decided to take care of it. He provides good instructions that explain what to do and what to expect. I did do two things differently. When it came time to spray adhesive onto the targa top I went ahead and taped it off to keep it clean. When it came time to do the final set on the edges of the new liner I used a plastic tool that you use on weather stripping. I was able to press the edges under the lip around the liner much easier than using just my hand. But I was very careful not to drag the tool or it would certainly ruin the material. He says it is best to use your hands only. I can see that the material would be easily damaged with a sharp tool of any kind. It's a foam material, good quality. I had never done this before and I think it turned out pretty good. I recommend the product.
Removing old liner off the backer board.
Removing the backer board from the targa top. Have to be careful here the backer board is kind of fragile and will tear easily. In a few places it was seriously glued in place and took alot of effort to get it loose without tearing it. I used a razor blade scrapper.
Spray adhesive from auto parts store onto the fabric.
Spray adhesive onto the backer board. Make sure it is the proper side. From here I install the fabric onto the backer board. I am careful not to pull hard on the fabric as it goes around the edge. The backer board will deform and the edge will be uneven.
Tape off the targa and spray in adhesive.
Install the newly covered backer board onto the targa top. Be careful to line it up properly. You don't get a second chance once it is attached it isn't coming off. Carefully work the edges into the lip around the lower edge and its done.
