Default Need help with a glitch.

Today I bought a 94 coupe with 70,000 miles on it. I drove it back from Fort Worth. While coming home my message board would flash with all the safety checks (service engine, ABS system, etc). I didn't think much about it but over the 280 mile trip this happened a total of 4 times. Each time it would kick my cruise control off. Has anyone had a similar problem and possibly know what the cause is? Thanks--Tom

I can't remember wether '94 is OBDI or II, but you should do a search in c4 tech on how to pull codes on the 94. That should tell you what was happening, unless it was the computer, unfortunately the computer doesn't rat itself out unless you have a scanner.

Purchased from dealer or private party? Doesn't sound like you took it for much of a test drive. I drove mine about 5 times before I decided to buy it, but I also bought from a PP. If you bought from a dealer, I'd be on the phone in a heartbeat. :mad

Could it be the computer is losing power, and resetting itself on occasion? Haven't heard of this before. eh.. not much help here, but a TTT for ya anyways.

Thanks for the replys. I purchased it from a dealer and yes my test drive was from Fort Worth back home a little over 280 miles. It has an OBDI. I will be getting back in touch with the dealer on Monday. It does not seem to lose power and the engine dosen't shut down. If I drive without cruise control it just flashes on and then off. I can get a hold of the software to put in my laptop to retreve the codes if there are any.

The car drives like a dream otherwise. It got just over 21 mpg and I only used about 1/4 of a tank of gas. :) The only other thing that appears to be wrong is the antenna won't retract all the way (leaves about 2" out) but works well otherwise.

I'll get into this more today when I wake up. Again thanks.

A '94 should, if I remember correctly get WAY over 21 mpg on the highway, more like 29-33. So that's something there to be concerned about. If you have the software, cable, and a laptop, by all means, go out and record some data, post the file both here and in the scanning tuning section, I'm sure someone will be able to interpret it.

See this page to pull codes without a scan: http://www.c4vettes.com/ecm.htm

good luck, I hope you don't have too much trouble getting your baby fixed.
Edit: I also just noticed that you mentioned 1/4 tank of gas being used. At 21mpg and 20 gallon tank, you used a little more than half. Don't get in the habit of relying on the fuel level sender to be correct, it usually isn't

Well I just got back from visiting and it did it again, but this time it stayed on long enough for me to get a good look at what was being displayed. What was displayed was: ASR ON, ASR OFF, Service ASR and ABS, Service ABS. I stopped and shut down the engine and restarted it a few minutes later. The message board was clean and no more messages on the way home.

Well since the car has a 90 day, 4500 mile warranity, I think I'll take it to our local Chevy dealer to have the test run and find out what they say.

Thanks for the input.
