I've got a 1990, L98 with the ZF6 trans in it. Though, the throw isn't bad, I was wondering if anyone has info on putting in a short throw shifter? (I'd have a shop do it.) But, I'm wondering about any long term damage particularly to the springs inside that gear box, and if any other modifications would be needed to accommodate one. The 1-4 really let's you feel how tight the tolerances of those springs are, as does the owners manual. I'm also wondering how that would effect shifting into reverse given the collar around the shifter. Any knowledge would be appreciated! (Yes, I know it isn't a "needed" mod, but I would enjoy it if it isn't bad for the car.

Many of us with ZR-1's have the Hurst or ZF Doc's short throw shifter. You cannot go wrong with it, one of the best mods I have done and have had it since 2012 and put on over 50K miles with it. Never missed getting rid of thee reverse lock out. I have a 92 ZR-1. If you visit the ZR-1 Net Registry forum you will find lots of information on the short shifters........do it and enjoy! We installed mine during a Wazoo maintenance day and it took a couple of hours.

How complicated is it with transmission out, and time difference. Is it idiot install proof?
