Re: superram base with stock T runners and plenum. (bogus)
Ok. Well Its more easy to swap the runners to supperram then take of the manifold again. And I can jus afford one of the things this winter..
Thanks for feedback on http://www.vetteforum.org- I guess you understand a singel word hehe :)
Re: superram base with stock T runners and plenum. (devilfish)
You really need the ASM runners before you will see anything from the base.
If you think about it no matter how good the base flows, the std runners will flow less than the base can. so you will not see any gains.
Comb's that will work to varing degrees are
S/R WITH BIGGER OR PORTED BASE
ASM RUNNERS WITH BIGGER OR PORTED BASE
MOST OTHER AFTERMARKET RUNNERS AND BIGGER OR PORTED BASE
SIAMESED BASE AND SIAMESED RUNNERS ( NOT TO SURE ABOUT THIS ONE AS I HAVE NOT TRIED IT )
If i were you i would just clean up what you have got and then save up for a S/R setup later on.
Re: superram base with stock T runners and plenum. (BLUE ONE)
i totally disagree with all this, here's why. i think the accel base is a GREAT idea, in fact back when i was playing with stock stuff i gained a solid 2/10ths porting my plenum, glass beading the inside of my stock runners and porting the base. the accel base is even better out of the box than a ported GM unit. if he ports his plenum, just easy stuff like behind the TB and matching the exit ports along with blasting all the junk out of the plenum and runners i know you'll see gains. just get everything in that manifold smooth and clean till you afford the SR top pieces. if you don't buy a SR spend the money on TPIS or AS&M both are extruded tubes which flow consideribly better than ANY cast tube. the semi siamese AS&M runner would be my 1st choice for a tpi runner.
Re: superram base with stock T runners and plenum. (gtsyellow)
Gtsyellow, i have assumed that he would do all the free mods like the back of the t/b etc so he would already have that in the bag if you know what i mean :)
I honestly don't think you would see much from fitting the base alone Which i though was the question.
I would agree that fitting the base now while putting the engine together is a good idea but i don't think you would get a payback until you fitted bigger tubes or the top half of the super ram set up.
Re: superram base with stock T runners and plenum. (BLUE ONE)
yes all the free mods would be included, at least they were done in my situation to gain what i did. my runners had a good amount of carbon in them & so did the base. just removing that picked up some cfm. i guess everyone has an oppinion on this but i'm definatly behind the base. if no other cleaning or work of any sort was done i might buy no improvment..maybe.
Re: superram base with stock T runners and plenum. (devilfish)
If all you do is install the base unported or unmatched it will still help. I was VERY careful to match and port my accell base to my stock runners. While I was there I also ported the plenum a little bit. I picked up a solid 2 tenths and have dyno results backing this up. I used to have it scanned in and had posted it several times. Vic based part of his decision in part on my dyno results. It didnt net him much if any at all though. Go figure.
Re: superram base with stock T runners and plenum. (red90sixspeed)
I would agree that port matching is worth doing, That is why in my first post i suggested that he should go with what he has, cleaned up.
I suggested he leave the base until he has the whole package so he can match everything off the car. If he fits it and matches it to his standard runners he will have to pull it again to open it up for the superram runners. If he just makes it as big as possible, it still might not be right with the new parts
It sounds easy to port and match and hey it might be me but i found it quite hard to port and match everything to a std i was happy with at the plenum and the base ( but i am fussy ) so that everything lined up. It took me several attemps and trial fits on the bench before i was happy
As always different people have had different experinces, but i would want to do it right and do it once, for me that would be super ram and base at the same time. :)
Re: superram base with stock T runners and plenum. (devilfish)
Devilfish: I think this is worth doing. I would also gasket match the manifold though. That way when you get the runners you can match them and get that extra bit of unf.
Although you may not see much gain, I think its worth it for hassle reasons. Its the same basis I have behind using stock TPI on a 383 motor... Once I buy heads I will put my SuperRam on (got it after I installed stock parts and put motor in) and step it up that much more. It'll be a dog for a 383 untill then though... but worth it..

Re: superram base with stock T runners and plenum. (VetteRacer282)
The intake manifold and runner length is the biggest problem of the TPI system. A better flowing base and shorter runners will allow it to breathe to a much greater extent.
The stock runners and plenum will negate the benefits of the SuperRam base because the STOCK amount of air will be getting to that SuperRam base. It looks like you are on a budget, so I reccommend SLP runners along with the base. To help, you can get a SuperRam base, brand new on EBAY from Rich @ cruizin performance at a good price. Then, go get the SLP runners which mount up nicely and you will see significant gains.
