..... OEM ? ... on an EFI engine , the distributor isn't under much duress ... very few moving parts and little responsibility ... its toughest job is driving the oil pump .....

OEM or better.. It looks corroded inside and has a slight misfire at high rpm. . For some reason it was replaced with a 'Cardone'. from a receipt I found in the rear compartment. I replaced all ignition parts but I've had problems with cheap distributors and pick up coils in the past.

I'm just going to replace it rather than messing around with a cheap $100 distributor. Looking for options of a higher quality that is a direct plug and play.

I don't think you'll find a more reliable piece that the OEM one. I've seen (and experienced) plenty of failures of "better" units, such as MSD, Jacobs ignition, etc.

Don't forget the oem dist is one part, don't forget knock sensor and ignition retard / advance via the est module.

Running the std system will give a high cruise advance and economy, I would not mess with one part unless you know what you are doing?

The stock hei distributors should be cheap and plentiful, my 85 dist is still going great no shaft wear. Orig pick up, only ever replaced the module once (upgrade) and a melonised gear for hyd roller cam. Very reliable in my case 170,000 miles never a problem, give it another try
