Default loose throttle cable

Hi everyone. I was looking at my throttle cable (not the TV cable) and it is very loose. I had my wife push the gas pedal to the floor and I'm short approximately 3/8" of the throttle opening all the way up. Is there any adjustment in the throttle cable at all? I have a new TV cable in place. I can't imagine the cable to the gas pedal stretching that much without breaking. What's up with this? I looked into my throttle body and sure enough it doesn't open fully.

**Well, I see that the FSM says there is no adjusting the cable. Still puzzled.

Once again, Thanks.

I don't think the the cable stretches much but plastic housings shrink. I replaced my cable years ago with a lokar cable for that reason. The other option is cutting off the cable end and replacing it with a set screw type cable stop.

disconnect tv cable, check for full travel again. Sometimes too much pressure causes linkage to flex.

I had the e brake cables on my Fiero stretch, I could no longer get it to engage and the adjuster was at the end of it's travel. New cables solved the problem. Since throttle cables are even thinner I would guess that yours has done the same.

I had the same issue with my 85, except mine was extreme, I was only getting about 70% throttle so could never get into flood clear, and the pedal had about 1 to 1.5 inches of free movement before engaging the cable. I ended up pulling my cable out and using a copper ferrule about a quarter of an inch long, when crimped it snugly gripped the wire but the original GM crimp kept it from sliding further back. That took almost all the slack out of the pedal for me.
The other thing I'd check is the plastic pivot for the pedal, mine had a lot of slop in it that seemed to contribute to the slack in the cable.
