I am about to change my Coolant Temp Sensor on a 91 base L98 completely stock.

Rock Auto lists a couple of options.

Anyone know for sure which specific CTS would be the right one?

As already said, go to local auto parts store and pick one up. No need to order online, have pay for shipping and wait for it to be delivered.

 

While I appreciate the advice, the value or appropriateness of using RA was not my question.
My local parts stores get regular visits from me, however, they completely lack any qualified personnel and are solely staffed by parts-fetchers who can’t even change wiper blades.
In addition, I must order pretty much everything for my cars from the local stores, so I can rarely do a local match-up. I even had to special order a plain set of brake rotors which arrived a week late.
not trying to turn this simple Q&A thread into a referendum on RA or general purchasing techniques, but since you guys took it there, I will bite.
I really loathe on-line shopping by Amazon, RA, or eBay. It sucks. Parts are delayed, wrong, broken, lost in the mail, no gear-head to answer questions, on and on.
in the old days (70’s), we would go to the local NAPA, park next to the hot rods driven by the employees, and get an instructional class on how to do whatever we were about to do. That **** don’t exist anymore around here.
What I do is to look on Amazon, RA, 1A, or another website, see what those sites list as the proper part, then stop by a local ORielly, Auto Zone, Advance, etc, and compare it to their computer listing. If it matches, then I will get it - if they can get a quality part and not some Chinese knock off.
Parts shopping is a pain in the rear.

So, back to my simple question: Does anyone know for sure, meaning, does anyone have or had a 91 base L98, and ever changed the CTS? If not, no response is needed. I will just take my chances and special order whatever is listed in the local parts store computer, wait a few days, go back to pick it up and hope the thing works.

 

gm used basically the same cts on a number of cars. for most of the early years. there is nothing special about the 91's sensors. i own a 91. i agree. no reason to not find it local. standard motor products, napa echlin brand, ac delco is fine.

on the 91. the sensor in the passenger side head is for the temp gauge. the sensor near the thermostat body is the cts for efi operations. and the driver side head port is plugged in my cars original engine.

It appears maybe you just need to 'leave the attitude' outside when you enter the 'local vendor' door. You do realize(in this case) you're asking for parts regarding a 30 year old vehicle. I seriously doubt you should have an issue with this 'local' purchase. A quick peek at RA hints you certainly shouldn't have had an issue shopping your way. There's even 'pictures'.

When I bought the CTS for the 91 I looked up the part number online from several sources so when i went to Auto Zone to get it I could be assured it was correct.
