I picked my car up from the Airport (after sitting 10 days) The car started fine. Then drove to the gas station and it also started fine. Drove 2 hours in the heaviest rain I have seen in a long time then stopped at the GF work to say that I am back ( 5 minutes ) go to start the car and nothing. Just a click and really dim lights. Jump started the car and drove home ( 15 minutes) Tried to start the car and nothing again. Could this just be a dead battery? The LCD also flashes SYS about every 5 seconds. The voltage reads 13.9-14.6 while driving. Thank you all for your replies.
I will let you know how my trip went tonight.
How old is the battery? If it is near its guarantee period, then I would suspect the battery, if not, I would remove the battery cables (neg first), clean both cable lugs and the battery terminals, then replace (neg last). You want your battery connections to be just like your lover, bright and tight ! :D
The Battery (an Interstate) was only 3 years old. I went ahead and replaced it this afternoon and so far so good. I checked the alternator with a load tester and it checked out great. I guess it was just the batteries time. The place I got the battery from wanted $60 to put the battery in. I did it at home and it only took a bit less than a half hour with a couple breaks. The connection were very clean and tight to begin with. I know enough to take care of it at that end since I use to install car audio and video for 11 years.
Dead when you least expect it.....all I did was forget to completely shut my drivers side door on my '84 vette, in my garage....while I was showing something to a friend....
Next morning...found the door left ajar.....car would not start....like I sais...always when you don't expect it.....Sucks...
