Default Alternative/aftermarket fuel filter location

Im redoing fuel lines larger for E85.

Ive got a number of reasons im re-doing them. I practically cut thru one, one time by accident , putting a big kink in it.
In addition to E85, Im gonna wet spray nitrous on top of the boost when drag racing.

so im going to rid of them.

Jack, owner of Racetronix, has gotten me the parts and fittings i need. PTFE hose/stainless braid/rubberized outer liner, dual fuel pump setup, etc

He and I have had some conversations on this.

the one thing i noticed is the new, reusable, high flow fuel filter is significantly bigger (in both diameter and especially length) than the stock filter.

I CAN fit this fuel filter where the old one was, but that brings it even closer to the header (which, while at least swain tech coated , is a terrible place to hAve fuel near).

I COULD wrap it in heat shield wrap I guess.

Though its against the inside of the frame, I always play doomsday and imagine a passenger side collision and what would happen should that filter break open against the hot header....

i could mount it back against the fiberglass bulkead on top of the fuel tank somewhere (with slack in the lines - maybe helping chances in a rear-end collision...)

anybody else put in a larger aftermarket fuel filter/ and have any recommendations on where to put it ?

There is enough space in behind the rear license plate cavity, it also provides easy access.

If the spare tire isn't there, then you have a nice area to work with.

I'm interested in what you decide here. I'm starting to overhaul my fuel system to support big power on E85, and I ran into the same issue. The Summit fuel filter I'm throwing on is 6.25" long to the ~4" of the stock filter, which would be a tight squeeze in the stock location. As people have said, it looks like the only other option is back by the fuel tank. It looks like there's a fairly accessible stretch of lines up inside the bumper that would work; the return line would just need to be bent out of the way a bit. Relocating from the stock location would then let me use that position for the flex fuel sensor without modifying the lines anywhere else, which would be a nice plus.

I mounted the Weldon external pump and filter to the frame crossmember back near the tank on the 87. It makes for a clean installation.

Use both or lines as feed lines, then just one new return line. Would save a lot of time and money.

Example pics would be super helpful...

I'll be doing this install shortly and seeing how others did theirs would be awesome!
