I recently replaced the intake gaskets that were seeping oil at the ends and now I still have another oil leak from other areas. :( Leaves a nickel size spot overnight. Leaky cars really **** me off.
My intent is to get the car in the air this weekend and take a close look.
What are the most common areas for oil leaks on an LT1?
Thanks in advance for you help.
Dan
oil drain plug
oil pressure sender
valve cover
front main
rear main
oil filter
oil pan
However, it takes lotsa miles before the mains become a problem... same with the oil pan...
the best way to find a leak is to clean a part of the parking surface. then, apply some duck tape to the area after you park the car.... then you can triangulate where the leaks are. I like tape on the rear of the front tires, and centered in the front of the car. you can also add tape to the front of the front tires... this is all taped to the parking surface.
Thanks Andy,
I will check it out this weekend. I will also check the intake again, as I did a search on the forum and found a couple of guys had sealing problems if they didn't use the ultra blue silicone. I used the black silicone that came with the fel-pro gasket set.
Thanks Guys.
I will check the oil filter adapter this weekend and let ya know. :yesnod:
I double checked the intake last night and I didn't find any leaks, so there is a good chance it is the oil filter adapter.
One thing I have found out,,,, replacing my Wife's 88 Monte SS with a 96 Vette is just as much or more upkeep. You would think 8 years and 100k miles newer would be like a new car.
