Located a set of 87 GM vette wheels for my 87. Want to try the polishing route on a set while keeping my stock wheels on.
Now a guys got 87 wheels(16x9.5) mine are stock 16x8.5. I looked up in http://www.vettenet.org for the specs. Seems STD suspension(FE1) have 8.5's with 32 offset. The 9.5's were Z51 and Z52 suspension with an offset of 38.
So now we seem to have 4mm more offset on the 9.5's
Since I can't figure out how to make sense out of all this crap.
Am I going to have any problems going to the 9.5's?
Why would I want to go to a 9.5? Traction? Wear? Cornering?
Will I need a frt/rear alignment?
Any help or answers would be appreciated.
The 9.5" wide wheels have 6 mm more offset and they are 25 mm ( 1" ) wider.
That means that they will add 18.5 mm inward but only 6.5 mm outward.
The reson for adding more inward is to keep the wheel in the right place compared to the body.
The wider rim will fit just fine and you don't need an alignment after the change. The stock tire size is also the same on both rims, but on the wider rim you can use a wider tire if you want to.
