Think I will stop using them.

Ordered 4 parts 2 weeks ago, coming from 4 different locations with 4 shipping charges.
Shipping was 30% of my order and that is a crock Rock!

Yeah, their shipping has gotten out of hand. I can sometimes get the shipping about 50% lower just by having it shipped to my work, despite the shipper and method being the same.

Living in Canada, shipping from any vender is always expensive, I haven't noticed any prices increases in shipping cost from rockauto compared to any other vender and at least they ship quickly. There is a lot of places where when I order from Canada it take 6-8weeks to get my parts rock auto is usually less than 1 week.

Sorry you guys haven't had as good of an experience with them.

Better hope you don't have a customer service need with them either, because there is none. They were trying to pass of some Chinese part as a Sachs clutch (in some off brand box with a cheesy white label stuck on it that said 'sachs'), and it was damn near impossible to talk to or email to a live person for assistance

When I finally got ahold of someone, they were insisting that it was Sachs. It was almost comical. They wouldn't accept the return even though I forwarded them pictures. It took an email from ZF (parent co of Sachs) saying it wasn't their part before I finally got a refund!

I have said this before, Rockauto sometimes (if not always) is shipping from someone not Rockauto. My son ordered some parts that were supposed to be Moog. They were Moog boxes with the wrong Napa parts (still in their Napa packages). They were shipped from a "Buy Here Pay Here" type place up in the semi-ghetto area of Cleveland, which is just north of us. I looked up the address they were shipped from.

Of course they claimed my son ordered the wrong part. I will NEVER buy from them. You folks that buy from them will save money until you don't. Then you will understand.

It is better to keep your local guy in business for a few dollars more so you can go get that part you need right now, now 2 days from now when you need to be at work tomorrow.

$40 is not worth the cost of aggravation. I was going to buy a set of monroe shocks for my DD. Rock has them for about $75 each, amazon about $85 and over $100 at shock warehouse. My mechanic is not a rock auto fan, for reasons already posted. I was going to just go to Rock (hey $40 is $40) and not listen to him, but the feedback here is setting me straight

I've said Rock Auto 'NEVER' for years ... as long as I can recall. I believe I became an RA HATER way back in '07 Before that I just didn't care for them and 'warned' people!

Just buy local!

^^^^^^This. In addition, any returns are less painful.. Where I come from, there about 4 or 5 suppliers selling pretty much the same items. Most are independent owners and customer service is their business. I can't remember the last time I had trouble returning a part locally.

Unless I can't get it anywhere else I never order from rock auto... generally it's napa/advanced/etc first for the little things. I know most of the guys working those. Bigger things I get off amazon... I have a warehouse 20 minutes away... pretty much everything is same or next day for me. If I need it now back to above. And if rock is the only one stocking it (like skf bearings) then I go there. But I've never had a smooth transaction with RA...

Wasn't like that when the phuked my son over. He ordered them, was told they were on the way. The only way we knew where they came from was that the crooks in Cleveland had their address on the box from being picked up and shipped.

Do you think they would really say "shipped from Fred's Buy Here Pay Here lot " ?

On top of that, they weren't even what they were supposed to be, just some leftover Napa suspension parts (still in sealed packages) that they stuck in the MOOG boxes.

Not a close out. Advertised as Moog. Sold as Moog. Not even what they were supposed to be. They were supposed to be tie rod ends for one of his vehicles. Weren't even close. They were just some parts thrown in a Moog box to make weight and take advantage of the fact the Rock Auto makes it all but impossible to return stuff. Blames it on the consumer for "ordering the wrong part".

That is their modus operandi.

As far as I am concerned, and in my opinion, they are dishonest. When there is a screw up, they make sure that the consumer holds the bag.

You have to understand the neighborhood that they were shipped from. Once you understand the mentality of people that take advantage of poor people, then you will understand. Those buy here pay here places have cars that have been sold 37 times. They are the scum of the earth. We unfortunately had one as the father of one of the girls in the car pool when my daughter was in Jr. High. He was an a**hole of the first degree. Lived where we do, ran one of those lots in the poor section of town. His daughter was a decent kid, his wife not too bad.

Better Business Bureau has lots of similar stories, 1132 complaints

But it WAS my mistake.

I've only had a couple of returns, including the core I cited above. No questions, no discussion, the return label prints on your machine, it goes back, and the results are in your email within a few days. I've always been granted the credit, less the return shipping charges.

1132 complaints. RA probably processes over 100X that many orders a day. Seems that 1132 is damn good. I read some of them. People that can't spell, use punctuation, or write coherently usually aren't very bright. They bring their own problems. If they can't write, they probably can't read (literally) the policies and procedures.
It's cool. I like RA. Not everyone does.

Anyone need a set of Glow Plugs for a 6.7L Powerstroke? I'll make a hell of a deal.
I ordered rack boots for the vette a few weeks ago from there... the brand was right, the part number right, both boxes has endlinks in it instead of boots lol. Took a few days of back and forth but they at least admitted that they had the part listing wrong on the site.

My problem isn't so much that they suck to deal with... its just more that every order I make with them seems to result in something being broken or the wrong item sent. Not so bad with preemptive things but when I need it asap anf pay to get it (those oddball parts like transfer case bearings etc) it always seems something ends up damaged with them and it takes 3x longer because they want it back before they send the new one and it's just a problem...

Not a huge purchaser of parts but I have purchased multiple items from RA without issue. I tried to purchase locally for a Philips Zenon headlamp for a 2005 Escalade. $104.00 at AutoZone. Got the same light for $56.00 from RA and arrived within 3 days. I installed the light and it worked fine for a week then crapped out.. I discovered small shards of glass in the packaging box but the bulb looked perfect. They took it back no questions and sent a replacement right away. Just ordered a water pump and associated hoses, belts, and thermostat for the same car. Delivered in 3 days less than $200.00 out the door.

Good to hear all of the feedback though to be aware.

Several weeks ago I ordered a new ECM. When I was getting ready to install I found a bad wire. Sent it back with no problems. They have always been prompt on shipping and service.

If they clearly sent you the incorrect part as you state, and refused to work with you, did you file a claim with your method of payment? (Credit card or PayPal) With pictures and copies of documentation and correspondence, you would get your money back.

I've noticed this problem is rampant EVERYWHERE anymore. It's pathetic. Where are these people taught the proper use of English and grammar, in a barn by goats???

I like RA too. I don't use them for everything, but when I do I get the best deal $$$ wise on the parts I'm looking for, shipping charges included.

Fixed it for you.

It's all totally our fault and not likely to be corrected. It's gone too far. For decades we have allowed people that can't properly pronounce the words of the English language to teach in our places of education. Years ago, I had a university professor who taught chemistry. It took six weeks until someone figured out that what was sounding like "ruddy pharaoh" was actually supposed to be "relative error".
