Default Budget cat converter

94/LT1. Found my drivers cat disintegrated when I had it off the car to do some other service. I’m planning to get long tubes in a year or two so don’t want to spend much on a replacement cat now when it won’t work with the future plans. It’s a heads/cam car with shorties and doesn’t need to pass an emissions test, so really this is to get me by for a few years and not have a stinky exhaust. Do the budget converters kill performance as compared to the factory set? Would it upset the balance to have the original cat on one side and an aftermarket on the other?

Keeping my eyes open for a used factory converter but also planning should one not pop up before driving season. Thoughts?

reasonable prices from RA but no idea the quality or anything...

I have a set of aftermarket high flow 2 1/2 cats that I would love to sell if your interested. I'll see if I can find a model number on them.

I'm at work right now so I can't go look but I think they are 2.5" Magnaflow part number 54956.

May be what you need, Magnaflows are decent and if its less than new then-
Bought a Catco catback yrs ago was plenty happy with it dont know if they are still around.
Cant help but wonder if theres only a few companies for these like most other productsa and rebranded.

Sorry not Magnaflow's. But either way they never gave me any issue.

If you don't have to pass emissions, why waste money? Just hog it all out and forget about it for a few years then do long tube headers with a decent cat. Otherwise, aren't you doing it later and wasting time and money today? As to a stinky exhaust, do you plumb it into your cabin? If not, it is just a whiff here and there since you, I assume, drive forward and not sit there for any length of time idling the engine.

My 93 had one break internally about 1997. I took both off, gutted them, and drove it..
I do have 2 OEM cats in a closet.....just saying..
But, I am leaving country very very soon for 6 weeks.
