May give that a try next time I have it up in the air, but it is definitly more than just a click. It is a clunk for sure, although that is one thing that hasnt been done to the rear end yet.:)

Mine clunks upon deceleration when it is "D". It is very pronouced and happns when i get to like 2 3-5 mph. If it is in "OD" i barely hear any noise. I just had my tranny rebuilt and it made NO difference whatsoever. I think it is normal. I hate to say it as it drives me nuts but almost every vette i have driven does the same thing. Why in D and not OD i have no idea. Anyone??

Mine does it in OD all the time as that is usually what I drive in. Never tried it in D, but will next time I have the car out, probably Tuesday when Im off next.

I figured I would just say that it's not all C4 vettes, because mine doesn't do it, so I would say it is not normal.

This is kinda strange but I have been driving my car pretty hard lately because of a cleared computer. I have noticed the pop or clunk sound is gone so I am beginning to suspect the limited slip dif. popping free theory that CorvetteZ51Racer suggested. Hey I will use any excuse to open her up he he he. :D

Ha, Ha, :)

I wonder how I should try to figure out whats wrong with mine?

"Well you see Mr Corvette Specialist, it's not making any clunking noises when I accellerate, I just can't figure it out"

I *might* be able to shed some light on this, as I am a former clunking victim in the turns and on hard accel, it went away, and am a new clunking victim on all accel.

My current problem is due to the fact that my bearings in the diff are shot, and so my gears have too much lash in them...simple fix, rebuild the diff.

The turning clunking, in my experience is due to having an excessively tight preload on the posi. The Vette posi's, unlike the f-bodies, have a clutch pack where the clutches are shaped like Ruffles. Springs press them together, and torque resistance the posi has is that force needed to turn the ridges in relation to one another. If your preload is too high, any time the ridges cross each other and settle back into place, there will be a clunking sound as the clutches slam back together. Just throw on some seriously sticky tires (315 Hoosiers are my personal preference), go flog the car and wear the posi in some. Once it's worn in some, the sound should go away. Plus, it's FUN! If not, you have something else wrong (but you've already fixed the gearset issue and u-joints...assuming the lash was properly set when the diff was rebuilt)
What a delight to hear that beating on a car can actually help the car. I must go tell my wife that.

Same kinda problem aswell as violent banging and clunking especially when turning left. Narrowed down to either buggerd spider gears or the posi unit itself. either way very exspensive fix(in Canada anyway) and probably hard to remove the diff without dis-emboweling the rear suspension.

Wedge. :cry :cry

Some rear ends are just going to make the noise due to design. I know that positrac rear ends will give a popping noise after slowing down or after a turn and coming to a stop. I am no expert on this but I have had it happen on another car and I was told it was due to one wheel going faster than the opposite wheel during a turn and the rear end tends to bind and the popping is the rearend unloading. 4X4 guys know of this noise. My car does not make this noise but again I am not an expert on rear ends.

I have heard this clunk as well. Just did it the other day but I was backing up slowly to park her. I have heard it upon acceleration and I believe it happens on a particular curve I like to hit pretty hard (love the grip). The turn issue that Blue88 mentions sounds feasible. I do not believe I have heard it punching her hard going straight. Regrading being normal...if it is, it will continuously drive me nuts. I HATE NOISES. New Vettes don't make noise...why should mine...goes the theory!

No noises from mine. But then, I have the D44 in my A4 car. Wanted to eliminate a weak link and get better gears at the same time.
