Default What performance spark plug wires are we using these days

Some of my taylor 8mm spark plug wires have gotten crispy (due to bad placement). I last replaced them in 2008.

what performance wires are we using these days for replacement ?

the MSD set i bought in 2002 was a PO$ , with spark arcs coming off the boot/wire junction - so please dont recommend those

..... My first choice - "hands down" ... is Moroso Ultra 40 wires with heat shrunk protective sleeves on the wires ... a VERY close second , my back-up wires ... FireCore 50 ... my wires were custom made to accommodate my coil near plug set-up .....

I always wrap the boot to wire junction with electrical tape.

the worst area I had trouble with (spark arc’ing) was the water pump neck area

but that was with crappy MSD wires (precut for LT1 corvette)

I’ve had 2 different sets of MSD 8.5 superconductors on my car and have had zero issues. This was with Hooker long tube headers and I’ve never used any sort of heat wrap.

I like what ever the cheapest wires from the auto parts store are.

I admit that headers might change the criteria somewhat.

Yeah I've always used them on mine, never had a single issue with the wire itself. I have burned through some that got loose from a loom or I didn't have a wire protector on next to the header.

I have the MSD 8.5 wires. I change my plugs every year so before I do it, I test the wires. Hot and cold. Dark garage and spray a fine water mist around the wires. If it lights up, I toss the plugs and wires. If not, just the plugs. I got the wires that were universal fit so I could set the length because it runs the length of the valve cover and that keeps it away from the headers. No protector. We shall see what it does next year but I think it has been several years running that it passed the water mist test.

another vote for the msd wires. i have been running msd products for 40+ years and never had an issue with anything, except an msd 7 box that i mounted in a spot that got water on it. but then msd took care of it.

-2 for MSD. Mine don’t offer a positive click every time on the terminal to plug connection. Same for the Vette and the Blazer. Shame on me for buying the second set.
