Damn that looks pretty rough... if the hood is still mostly intact sell it and get a highrise then the sky is the limit. There ain't much room to work under there.

I am using a ZZ4 intake for my carb set up. Still hard to find a thin enough air filter. Most sbc factory cast iron or aluminum low rise intakes will clear the hood without an air cleaner. I installed a cowl induction hood scoop after dealing with fuel perc problems.

A 2101 edelbrock intake and a drop base air cleaner will fit under a stock hood.

I had fuel perculation problems too. Swapped from carb to SuperRam to miniram.

You can make the crossfire cars run 13s pretty easily while keeping the crossfire set up. I personally would port the crossfire intake. Just my .02

A 1/2 " wood or phenolic carb spacer helps to eliminate the fuel perc problems.

Usually yes. In this case, even with a drop down filter, there was at best 1/8" clearance from the hood. Didn't want to sawzall.

^^THIS^^

You're going to spend >$500 to swap to carb, lose EFI driveability and economy, all for the same power you could have gotten my porting the stock intake and doing "free mods". All while further devaluing (and worsening your "financial mistake") your '84.

My recommendation to you is to sell it now and recoup your money. I don't see any love from you, that indicates any love toward the car. Let someone who'll love it, have it.

Well....first, you bought the intake/carb etc at some point...right? A stork didn't drop them off at your door step, did they? I get what you're saying, but things have a value and you paid for that in some form, to get it. Perhaps you got a "smokin' deal", perhaps it was "part of an engine"....but the parts still had their own equity.
Second, your still missing a bunch of stuff. You need more than a carb and intake:
*Filter assy or solution
*Mechanical/vacuum advance distributor
*Throttle linkage
*TV Cable linkage
*Some type of way to manage fuel delivery (stock pump is too much for carb...and won't run properly w/o an ECM)

Well there is some compelling "proof"! I'd add that if you've never seen an '84 with the CFI on it, then you haven't looked very hard.

You should do well on these here forums.
Let me take a moment to point out to you, that since you didn't state your goals, we don't know they are. Thus, if your goal was to have a fun, punchy "driver" (a likely possibility), then your money and efforts would be better spent porting the intake and tuning the CFI; a 300hp CFI is very easy to "get", from a stock one. -I'll BET that you didn't know that (most folks don't). On the other hand, if you want a "drag track" only, car, then you're right, the CFI isn't the best solution -although I'd point out that "Buccaneer" and "Ben73" on these forums both have 12 second, CFI equipped cars . We don't know what you're "going for" though, so perhaps you could "help us, help you" with a little better information.

Finally, if you want to see pics of CFI > Carb swapped 'Vettes, I'll do you one better; how about a video? Here is what that's going to look like....like virtually any SBC with a carb.
