My 91 comes on full brightness when I open the drivers door with the round key, when I open the door, and I turn on the interior lights with the dimmer switch.

it does not come on when I pop the rear glass

It will not come on if it’s sunny outside

not sure why yours is coming on dim at times.

It's probably something dumb. I've had a couple of quirks with lights lately.

I'm gonna be under the car tomorrow anyway changing the oil and screwing around with the shifter linkage, so I might change out that socket and bulb and see if it resolves it. Actually, I definitely will. May as well, since I have the new socket.

I dunno, I've never really paid much attention to how bright they were. They seem normal.

That courtesy relay does click randomly open and closed once in a while, though. Which of course sets off the courtesy lights. I have the replacement relay, Just haven't messed around with it. At first I thought it was the door switches causing it, but that wasn't it. They needed replaced anyway.

Ah well. I'll figure it out. I'm glad I found the thread, though. It'll give me something else to tinker around with.

That could be it.

Not to take away from op's original question, but I repaced the bulb. No change. Replaced the socket. No change.

I'll swap out that relay whenever I get around to it and see if that sets it straight.
