Default New engine time!

I'm in the market to trade in my old engine toward a new, better one with a warranty. I know there are a TON of places to buy engines. I have set a limit on spending of $3500. The more powerful of course the better. I have had a 383 in mine, but I would like to get into a roller/rocker config with a new cam and don't want to use my old block. The block I have now is from the 70's some time, I don't know because I didn't install it originally.

I would love some opinions of other fellow forum members that have had good experiences with companies they have used. Any takers? :seeya

Thanks,
Shayne

In doing some looking and research, I found this one:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=1874505653

No idea if it's any good. I don't know the company at all. What do you guys think of it?

General eBay advice:
Before you spend that kind of money over the internet, get references. If you click on his feedback number you will see his previous auctions. That seller has over 100 responces and less than 2% negative feedback, so I wouldn't hesitate to spend a small amount of money with him, but before I dropped thousands of dollars I would check up on him. The other auctions he has listed available in his feedback are also similar products, so that makes things easy. Just e-mail a few of his previous customers. Most people are more than willing to give you all of the details if you ask about such a big transaction. I have send and recieved a few such e-mails and I have never had anybody get irritated about being contacted.
And BTW: post how it goes. I ave been thinking about ordering from this guy, but I am still 9 months from starting my engine project, so I am only doing prelim' looking now.

I couldn't agree more. You read my mind, I had already found 3 other people that had bought this exact engine and emailed them. So far, I have had one positive response, and here it is:

Hello The engine I bought is great I put it in a 67 camaro all seems fine Mark was very helpfull when selling the engine for what I wanted I put this in late in the season and did not really get more then 600 miles on it the car is in the body shop now but from what I seen and what I felt I was impressed with the price was great I could not have built one for the price I have a 69 chevelle with a 396 I worked up to the LS6 specs that engine dyoned at 465 horsepower at the rear whell and this 383 stroker will give it a run for the money in this camaro very much torky like a big block. And for Mark he appairs to be very motor smart very Honest.Hope this helps you.Ray

Well I'm hoping that whatever I decide to get into costs much less than $3500, we'll see! As far as a car getting back together, it's gone just the opposite. I noticed that I had a copper residue on top of the block. At that point I decided to investigate further and I found that my bearings were shot. I know how it happened too...my car had a leak in the coolant system and my temperature gauge wasn't operating at the time. So I had no idea until the car was bogging down on a freeway off-ramp. Well the oil was definitely damaged, but at the time I didn't know that oil could lose its viscosity from heat. So I drove it longer, unknowingly doing damage. Well I have torn the engine out of the car and have started tearing it down. So far so good, it's been really straight forward. I'm taking lots of photos making sure that I get this right and I'm taking my time to get it done right. Anyway, there's an update! And there is part of the reason why I'm looking at a new engine. My engine really isn't that bad, but I would like to get into a roller-rocker instead of just rockers which changes the whole story a lot.

Shayne
