Default Lifter question

I pulled the lifters out of the LT4 and didn't pay attention. Now that I look at the lifter, there is a small hole on one side of the lifter toward the top. Which way should the hole be pointing when putting the lifter back in the block. The GM manual doesn't say anything about it.

I'm able to put them in either way. Just not sure if there is a right and wrong way.

Took the motor out and apart. It's down to almost a bare block. It's getting a hot cam, ported heads, new springs, new lifters, and all new seals.

if i were you i'd call some place that's helpful with this sort of thing like TPIS, i for the life of me can't rememeber how i put those lifters in or if it matters. a complete new set isn't that much if you wanted to change those while you were at it. the full kit from GM is $200, comp, speed pro and others also sell kits. sometimes they come up new on ebay for under $100.
