I'm wondering if the VSS ties into the EFI for any reason, or the cruise control. Basically, if the VSS was broken would it affect anything other than the speedo and odometer?
The VSS on your 91 goes to the ecm, from there it goes through the firewall and splits 3 way's, I can not remember if it goes to the ccm first but it feels the speedometer, the radio, and the cruise control.
If the car is an FX3 the VSS signal would go to the FX3 from a splice prior to the ECM, if speedo & odo are correct you can assume the ECM has corrected VSS to CCM and the splice to CC and SCV are in tact. Functionality requires confirmation.

Does the VSS adjust the radio volume? Just wondering why it goes there?
I had the VSS wire short out going from the ecm in under the dash, it courses all sorts of problems with my speedometer and cruise control.
What sort of symptoms were you having? Did it go to "0" intermittantly? I have one here that goes to 0 and the cruise cuts out when that happens.
Which wire was it that you repaired?
