I am putting my oil cooler back on ( after rebuilding the motor ) and I can't remember if there is a gasket for the adapter piece above the cooler  it's held in by two bolts. I have called the dealer and they have a kit but according to their computer it only comes with a rubber O-ring for the cooler.
Is there a gasket for that piece? It sure looks like there should be one :yesnod:
Is this what you mean by oil cooler? If so then yes, there is a gasket that sandwiches in between the engine block & the aluminum filter/cooler take-off housing. There is also an O-ring. I bought mine thru the local GM dealer. I can dig thru the receipts if needed, but I'll bet Jeff Kopp at Superior Chevy knows what it is; you might call him @ 913-384-3115
Should only be an O-Ring there. Which if you need one, take it off the oil filter you are getting rid of, its a great fit, and alot cheaper and easier then buying one.
He is not asking about the cooler, he is asking about the oil filter adapter, the part that is bolted to the block. I do not recall there ever being a gasket there. I just checked the parts book and it does not list a gasket either.

Yep, that is the part I'm talking about :yesnod: . I have called 3 different dealers and they claim there is no such gasket :nonod: just the rubber O-ring. But, I stumbled accross this thread in another forum; http://www.corvetteactioncenter.com/...hreadid=19687; and it sounds like there is a gasket for the adapter  .
I was planning on dropping the motor in this weekend but I don't want to take a chance on starting it up with no gasket if there is supposed to be one.
There IS a gasket + the o-ring in there. I found these pic's, they are the closest pic's I have of that area. Zoom in on the machined adaptor area & you can see the dark outline of the gasket on the machined surfaces. I remember it well as during my rebuild I ran across a post that dealt with this gasket, the guy had a leak W/O it, so I made sure mine was in place. :)
This is the adapter I am talking about http://www.sdpc2000.com/cart.asp?act...id=317&pid=290 . So, it looks like the gasket is thin rubber and covers the whole surface under the adapter, correct ? I just want to make sure what it looks so I can explain it to the parts guys, because they claim it doesn't exist.
Just found this Pic that has the actual bag the GM gasket kit #88893990 came in. My receipt is for $4, on the same receipt I have another gasket #12555771 that cost $4.18, I can't remember which is which, one of those should do it though.
Thanks, that's what I was looking for  I just went over to {Non-supporting vendor}.com and the part # 88893990 is the gasket I was looking for. Now I hope a delership around here has one
I just read the ad in the link you posted so I cut & pasted what concerned me below: Oil filter adapter fits all small blocks from 1968-99 except for LT1 and LS1
I did not realize there was a difference in the LT series motors in this area. So the PN's I listed may or may not be of benefit to you.
Good luck & give Jeff Kopp a call @ the number posted above, he will most likely know & a great guy to chat with also!
I just got off the phone with Jeff Kopp and there is no Oil filter adapter gasket for the 85. The adapter just bolts to the block and the only gasket that is needed is the rubber O-ring that goes on the cooler.
