Yesterday I started up my 96 to warm up the oil for a Spring change. When I went under I saw a 2 foot diameter puddle of oil by the front of the engine. I started looking for oil leaks and realized the oil was too clean to be engine oil. It was power steering fluid. I did not know that almost hidden from view is a small hose clamp on the return line. It appears it had never been snugged up in the last 25 years. It was less than hand tight. Something to check if you never have. Had I been driving I think I could have burnt up my pump. Dan
Weird. Mine were all tight but the hose broke. Pulled over and had to make calls and see who would take it and store it till I got the replacement hoses. You'd think it would have come loose by now if the clamp wasn't tight to begin with. Maybe the expansion and contraction finally messed up something in the screw? Did you replace all the old hoses now or at least replace all the clamps?
I installed this new duel steering damper last fall. I was pushing on the hoses from the front to tighten the screws. I am sure this is what helped it to start leaking. You can't see the hose clamp from the front which is why I never knew it was there. Dan
