it is my understanding that at WOT the maf sensor is not used so i was wondering if it would help or hurt to remove the airfilter, housing, maf, and connecting tube from the car( running open throttlebody) for running at the track
any opinions welcomed
thanx
Dude half a second is like a tremendous gain. How many MPH would that equal? .5 off the ET from this is highly doubtful, but I hope its true ;). Do you have any timeslips to back that, because if you do, I'll be removing mine :)
sorry havn't been on for a few days any how my first pass at the track was 14.13 at 97.54 with a 1.935 60'(with maf sensor, all tubing and the airfilter housing with no filter) my second pass was 13.749 at 99.23 with a 1.922 60'
(open throttlebody) that was the only two runs that i could get in that night i got to the track late and didn't have time to run timetrials so i dialed ina 14.0 and broke out the second round.
i will do a few more expirements wed night during test-n-tune i will post results here asap.
I put a cone on 91 TPI Trans Am, and had great throttle response and awesome sound. However, the K&N cone supposedly doesn't fit the LT1. I'm not sure why it wouldn't, because i dont think there is that much variation in the throttle body on an L98 and an LT1. Also, are there any problems or implications when you remove the MAF on an LT1???
I've seen race car engines with multiple carbs and no filters. Just big ole air horn looking things. They just hope nothing gets injected. Besides, they were overhauled after so many laps didn't make much difference.
Filtered air is naturally better. Solids will definitely make to the combusion chamber.
