Passenger side headlight stays up when I shut the lights off. If I rotate the motor about three turns (away from the up home position) and cycle the switch, it goes down and will come back up with no problems. It will even cycle up and down a few times after that with no problem.
There is not a motor sound, like the assembly is binding. There is just no movement down when the lights are turned off. The bushings are there and look to be in good shape.
To me it acts like a dead spot in the motor,,,, What do you guys think??
I even adjusted the up position stop a couple of mm to make it stop in a slightly different spot. Thought I had it. Lights cycled up and down a few times and then, tonight when I went to fuel up. Turned the lights off, passenger side stayed up.
:( :(
Re: Headlight Stays Up - Passenger side (T'sVette)
There are switch contacts operated by the end stop torque which shuts off the motor and makes the connection for reversing the motor when power is applied. Your contacts are worn out. I haven't found a source of replacement contacts.
Re: Headlight Stays Up - Passenger side (T'sVette)
i had the same problem, it was the connections on the wiring harness, take them apart and spray wd-40 on all the connections and put them back together. thats all it took to fix mine
Re: Headlight Stays Up - Passenger side (atotalnincompoop)
I couldn't be that lucky :)
Took the connector apart and sprayed WD40 and blew it out with compressed air..... No luck.
Sounds like it may be the motor.
Any other suggestions ?? :chevy
My wife is really after me to fix her "Cyclops Car"

Re: Headlight Stays Up - Passenger side (T'sVette)
Yes, the contacts (they look like relay contacts) are inside the motor. You can take the motor apart and see what the condition of the contacts are. You might only need to slightly bend one contact blade to make the contacts touch. Otherwise, its motor replacement time. I have a friends 85 motor with this problem and I'm looking for replacement contacts.
If bending doesn't work try cleaning them. If you don't have a burnishing tool, take a book of matches and cut off the lighting strip where you strike the matches. Insert it beween the contacts and move it up and down. Turn it over to do the other contacts. That should take care of it. :yesnod:
