Since I'm ditching the TPI on my build (which I expect to be in the 425-450 crank hp range) I've been thinking about what to do for air induction. I was looking at the hood today and it seems like the area just above the air cleaner could be opened up and a small scoop added to the front edge of the hood. I'm not a graphic artist so I won't even bother trying to use Paint or something like that to make a horrible drawing.
Just wondering if anyone has ever seen something like this done.
I have a hood like you are speaking of.. it is almost finished and sitting in my garage covered up untill i finish the fine details. I am getting ready to do a second one in the same way but I have a better size scoop to mold in.I can send you pictures of the hood that I am speaking of it does have a fully functional opening in the front of it and there is a faux grill that bolts into it. I you will text me at 904-228-1196 I will send you those pictures. I will try to post them on the forum when I am on my other computer. The hood is very similar to one a member named COPO did on the forum here. Thanks, Gary
I've seem COPO's hood and yes it looked great, but not what I had in mind. The more I've dug into this the more I like the idea of cutting the radiator cover under the factory housing and using a slightly smaller filter to get cold air from there.
Gary, I'll text you for those pics.
I ran Callaway inspired scoops for awhile trying to get cooler air to my filter on top of the motor, when I ran a supercharger.
Can't tell you if it helped power, but the TPI tubes where cool to the touch after a run down the highway, after I installed them.

I sent some pictures of the first hood I did and still have. I have a breathless performance air filter system that gets its aea from the area that you are speaking of. When I bought it I bought the radiator support, dual fans and everything else needed to bolt it up as it was in the car taken from. And I also have the A/O forced air system .
Thanks guys, interesting stuff, but I was thinking of something like this:
Looking at the car from the side, the scoop would be a raised opening at the leading edge of the hood, running straight back to blend into the hood. That opening could be 2.5"-3" talll. Think of the aluminum scoop for the underside that directs air into the radiator, but smaller and inverted.
I have a photo of one of those scoops that I photo shopped onto a C4 hood, I then blended it with in Microsoft paint. It looked good and then I found a company on line that made and sold the ws6 scoop.
It is made of fiberglass and it may be trucky bonding the fiberglass to SMC
