How hard is it to wire the 4+3 up so that it only comes on when you want it to. The only time I ever use it is one the highway and its kind of annoying when it shifts into OD around town, I usually try to catch it before it shifts, but sometime I am not quite quick enough. So if its an easy thing to do and you want to write the directions down that would be much appreciated...thanks
Check out the Feb. '03 issue of Corvette Fever Magazine. In the Wear & Tear section that this exact question is answered. It's in the "Neurotic Overdrive" Q & A. I am going to do this on my '84 this weekend.
can somebody post some pics on the procedure....as my OD is fried and i have just ordered a new button for the stick, becuse the plastic clips on the under side are broken and i keep hitting it every time i change gears...it's just too annoying!

If your switch is engaging that easy, you need to replace the switch that is down on the shifter stalk, not just the shift pattern button. The spring inside the actual switch down low has gotten weak making it easy to activate. :)
ATT: Scorp508...Can't say that I agree with your suggestion to just use a switch to turn the OD on and off... I would route such a swtich through a reverse and 1st gear lock out. Reversing in OD, as I recall, doesn't work as there is no pump pressure and the OD wasn't designed to take the torque of a hard 1st gear start.
I just try to remember to push the button when I start or shortly there after when it goes into OD when I don't want OD. The inconvenience is a lot less expensive that an OD unit, Right Scorp? You should know!

If you want to get tricky you can do this, but I don't see the need for most people. It seems that the majority of people interested in doing a manual OD switch change only use it in 4th anyways. I don't know many people that go from 4th/OD to reverse. :) But, yes.... you are right that it would be a good failsafe.
