Fuel Pulsar

Can anyone tell me the purpose of the Fuel Pulsar that is above the fuel Pump. I noticed that there is not one on my C4. I just got the Fuel pump to prime and the car started and running. When my new pump comes friday I may as well install a pulsar when installing the fuel pump. It seems like the pulsar is just a one way check valve to hold pressure on the fuel rail?? thanks, Gary

Supposedly it is there to damp the fuel pulses but I see it as a leak point and totally worthless for the risk it creates. I'd just use the special hose that is supplied.

The early MPFI fuel pumps were loud. The pulsator.was installed to reduce the noise. Eventually quieter fuel pumps were developed and the pulsators aren't normally necessary.
