Default 1987 window adjustment

Hello all,
1987 coupe with 62000 miles automatic.
The passenger side window has leaked the 10 years I have owned this car. Today I noticed that the window rocks from side to side about 1/8 inch and feels loose. There is a lot of wind noise on the highway from this passenger side window. The water leaks in through the roof seal so I am sure of a loose window / fitment issue. I have read up on window adjustments but have two questions. What is causing the side to side movement of the window? I have included some pictures and it seems as though I am missing a window felt. Should there be one on the left side of the door panel by the outside mirror? Should they be adjusted to the window when fully opened? The two that I have do not touch the window.
I am hoping for some insight from someone who has done this before... before I go ahead and break something. My other window seems sturdy and does not move and does not leak. I am also going to install new door seals while the door panel is off. Should they go on dry of should I use some RTV along the seal where it meets the door frame?

Thank you in advance,
Kevin

i had the same rocking problem with my driver side but much worse that only 1/8th inch rocking
problem was the bolts that hold the window to the regulator were loose
I did my outer weatherstrip last year, on dry no rtv.

This.

And... While he's in there... He should check the adjustment on the 2 felt bumpers.

I just adjusted my window pads last week or so. Didn't do at full extend. Issue is the weather seal will push more than when down about a third or so. With the window third down, suddenly the pads were 1/4-3/8" away from the window! No wonder they shook like when when partially down.

Tidbit for the weather seal at the top of the window, hit it with some grease, silicone, etc., especially where the top seal meets the front. I was naughty and started with Vasoline, but I'm replacing the seals soon anyway. The grease will help fill some pinholes and such that are letting the water in.

Thank you for all of the replies. I took my inner panel out and saw that my window screws were tight on the regulator. This passenger window felt loose even after rolled up fully. My drivers side window is also loose when half opened but is tight when closed. I put it all together and now the window is solid when fully up. But when I closed the door the window was a bit too high and did not fit under the weather-stripping. I'm on the right track but my window needs to be tweaked a bit to clear the weather-stripping.
I printed 2 detailed directions but does anyone have a readers digest version on how to adjust the window? Which screws are the adjustment screws?

Thanks again for all of the help,

Kevin

1. Drink beer if it keeps you calm. I prefer to zone and breathe.

2. One change at a time, you will make many. Not a bad idea to loosen a screw and move it around to see what it actually does.

Wish I could offer more, pretty sure my brain decided to purge the whole incident.

The window feeling loose when partially open is definitely a window felt issue. They wear to a point where they are too far from the window by the time they reach the limit of adjustment. I had that issue on my 85 when I was upgrading my window regulators and 4 new felt pads took care of it. I would try that first and then make adjustments as needed from there.

The reason the window feels tight when fully closed is the rear catch on the door. There are two rollers on the window that fit into that groove to limit max travel and set the angle of the glass. That latch is where you should spend your time making adjustments after the felts are replaced. There are tons of adjustments to these windows and it is easy to dig yourself into a hole if you change too many at once. It took me a while to get it figured out on my car.

I had 3 things going on...

1. The felts, while not shot, we're sketchy... If I remember right a full set is under $20. Easy call to R&R.

2. ALL of the regulator and window fasteners were a bit less tight than they should have been.

3. The outer window seals were worn... Again, not shot, but enough to make it an R&R no-brainer.

Thanks for the responses. My inner and outer window scrappers are new. The felts are worn and I will replace them. Are there 4 felts on each window? Not sure if I have four. Is there a secret at adjusting the felts? Should the felts contact the window at fully closed? Fully opened? Or halfway? I see what is meant by the travel latch but cannot see how an adjustment can be made. Any insight? I see two bolts that don't seem to be adjustable.

Mine touch at fully open and both windows line up perfectly.

2 felts per door.
