Hello all, My 1990 c4 L98 died last night and wouldnt restart. was driving perfectly fine, pulled up to a stop sign and then dead. I am almost 95% sure its the distributor. Does anyone have any recommendations on an upgraded replacement before I end up just getting a reman?
Thanks!

cardone makes a good replacement, has new cap and rotor as well. Shameless plug, I have a brand new unit I bought from summit racing for 110.00 plus tax, used it for mockup and decided to go with holley dual sync distributor since I'm using the hp efi. I'll take 95 shipped for it. Pm if serious. It's still in the box, gauranteed new condition, and gauranteed to work.
Send me a pm if interested, not trying to gouge anyone, just recoup some of the money I spent on redundant items. I also have a good stock distributor, but it definitely needs a new gear put on it, came out of my 91 and has 102,xxx miles on it. But seriously, I have never had trouble with cardone units, it's typically the 7 pin module that goes bad in these distributors, occasionally the pickup goes bad but not common. Most the aftermarket replacement use a cheap hei module and will fail quickly, cardone is definitely above average as far as refurbished rebuilt replacement parts go. Gm has long since discontinued any replacement parts for the large cap hei that the 84-91 cars use.
Yet another option is to go to a junkyard and grab a small cap unit and coil from just about any chevy v8 from 87-95.
Also, check the carbon pile below the coil and the rotor for wear, hei is a pretty hot setup and they will run until the carbon is gone and it starts to melt the cap away, could also be loose power wire inside the cap. Remember these cars are over 30 year old, and heat cycles, age wreak havoc on this stuff. You could very well just have an electrical short in the cap, or pickup wiring, especially if the car has had the intake removed or trans removed in the last several years, wiring gets hard and brittle, and is ok until you disturb it or move it to work on other things, that's when problems can show up. Might want to verify the wiring going to the distributor is ok before spending money on parts you might not need bro.

Oh I definitely need it. I did intakes a couple weeks ago and had to take the distributor apart because it wouldnt fire when I got it all back together. put it back together and voila! ignition! Also the plastic/seal where the pickup wires come out was gone so it was wide open to the air. that combined with the fact that i set it on fire yesterday and then doused it with the fire extinquisher and then washed it all off with water definitely did not help matters. lol!!!!!!

I Really don't want to post my email or cell number in public, but have no trouble with you calling or emailing me. Maybe post your email and I'll give it to you that way. Facebook marketplace changed the format for sale ads, so I marked it sold. Cause I refuse to pay their fees on too of PayPal fees. Nothing fishy going on, it is also listed here. I'll only take PayPal and will only ship to paypal approved address. Generally ship within 1 business day, always provide paypal the tracking number the minute I ship any item. Been buying and selling on ebay, and various corvette groups, and others for over a decade, 100% positive feedback.
