I have an 87 L98 with 33,000 miles. I’ve been having an intermittent issue where sometimes when I start it when cold and sometimes even starting it when it’s full operating temperature, my Service Engine Soon lamp comes on and I notice it surging and idling somewhat rough. It also will sort of “hunt” to stay on speed when I have the cruise set. This only happens intermittently. When the SES lamp is off, the car runs, idles and drives excellent. About a month ago, I installed a performance air filter (K & N) type it utilizes a pre-oiled cotton material. I’m wondering if possibly the oil may have affected the TPS or throttle body plates, I don’t know. That may be a stretch. Anybody else ever have this issue? It’s not a real big deal, but it keeps the car from running pretty much flawlessly.

Your throttle body plates are metal and your TPS is outside the throttle body so I doubt it. MAF, maybe. Use MAF cleaner and try clean the filaments and see if it goes away
